My cat Casey waits until I come home to poop in the litter box so it is
cleaned up right away.  This week, I came home Tuesday and he walks
over to the litter box which was soiled (I assume his brother did it).
The litter box is in a walk-in closet/room.

Casey sat by the box and looked up at me as I walked by hanging up
clothes, etc.  He looks at me and Meows.  I keep doing what I have to do
and all the time he is sitting by the litter box waiting for me to pass
by, and when he gets my eye, he Meows just a little longer and louder.
You know... the meow when they open their mouth so wide their eyes
close.

Finally, I get the point and clean it out.  He proceeds to step in and
"do his business."

I know what you mean. Teti also gives me a message, but slightly different.
He enters the litter box, then he comes out again, heading for the EverClean
box where the new litter is and starts scratching it. It is as if he says:
"Hey, I could have done this myself, but I'm not sure if I can handle it. So
come on, you lazy, help me get the litter box clean!"

Tinùviel is more direct to it, she just poops right outside the box if she
doesn't like what's inside...

Gotta go, the litter box needs my attention, it seems....
