for what I imagine - and hope - are simply five terrified felines. About
12:10 p.m. I got a call from our security company saying that the
security alarm had been tripped and they'd had to call the police. In
the past this has been caused by a cat leaping from ill-placed furniture
and setting off the motion sensor. The police come out, check that there
has been no forced entry and leave. I go home, find the police gone and
make sure the cats are alright and I go back to work.  This time I
couldn't go home so I called Rusty and asked him to go. He called me
about 45 minutes ago to tell me that the police were still there because
the front door was hanging by the hinges.  We've been moving some
furniture and had moved an old, "build-it yourself" entertainment system
into the front hallway until we could move it out. The only reason the
thief(s) hadn't gotten into the house is because the door jammed up
against the entertainment system. The alarm went off and because no one
was home to answer the phone the monitoring company called the police.
Rusty said he hasn't seen any of the cats yet but that the alarm was
still blaring when he got home. Lacey, Sam and Barnabus have never heard
the alarm before since it hasn't tripped in 3 years. I suspect everyone
is hiding in our bedroom under the bed and Rusty hasn't had a chance to
check on them. I think it's time for me to go home and see about the
cats because I'm not going to get any more work done today. I'm a wreck.
I just hope Sam and Hobbes (being the brave ones in the family) didn't
go out the front door between the time the thief(s) left and Rusty
arrived. Please let my kitties be home safe!

Everyone is present and accounted for - under the bed. The police had
entered the house before Rusty got there to look for intruders and had
checked under the bed. All they found were 10 huge eyes staring back at
them. I'm heading home now. I'll let you know later how everyone is doing.

I'm glad to know the cats are all there and safe.  Purrs for everybody,
human and feline, to recover quickly from this ordeal.

That's a very scary situation!!! I'm glad everything was ok. We actually
had to disable our motion sensor because the cats kept setting it off,
even though it's supposed to be for houses with pets.

I'm sorry to hear about the break in, but am so relieved that evfurryone
is safe and accounted for. At the end of the day, material possesions
*can* be repaired and replaced.

{{{HUGS}}} for a quick resolution and for everyone to recover from the
shock quickly.

Oh, Julie, I am so glad they are okay!  I'm sure you must be about as
shook up as they are. Calming purrs headed to all of you.

This happened to me once, when I had one cat, Isis.  I was away, and
my apartment was burglarized.  They left the back door wide open.  I
looked, and called, and looked and called for Isis, and after hours, I
still had not found her.  I had looked under the bed, but saw nothing.
I finally sat on the bed and cried, about to give up, when it occurred
to me to look under the bed one more time, all the way in the back,
dark corner.  And there she was, where she hadn't moved for about 12
hours.  When she saw my face and smelled my hand, she finally came
out.

She was a bit shook up, I think, but she was back to her normal self
in no time, and I hope your furkids will be, too.

Good to hear that everyone is accounted for.

Back when I had my breakin here I just happened to come home not long
after the crooks had left. Little Bit was hiding under the bed, but
Sammy was out to greet me like nothing was wrong. Spotty was a very
recent arrival, and I found her sitting in the wide open window that
was the point of entry. At the time I thought I was very lucky she was
still in the apartment, but now I know she really has no interest in
the OUT except for the view. When Little Bit and Sammy are allowed to
go out, Spotty sits in the open door and watches. Actually, now that I
think back, when I adopted Little Bit and let her inside out of an ice
storm it was many months before she ventured back into the OUT.

Poor kitties! But I'm glad the police came to check out your place,
after your having a few false alarms. (Do you get fined for that? That's
what they do around here.)

The thieves tried to come in via your front door?? The nerve!

Purrs that your kitties calm down soon. (And you, too!) In spite of
how scary it must have been for them, I get a kick out of that cop
looking under the bed and seeing 10 huge eyes. At least the kitties
weren't to blame this time!

I now feel good about my messy hallway that would be a deadly hazard to
any attempted burglars.

I'm glad all your cats are okay.  Double bonus that the thieves never
got anything.

Wow Julie, I'm glad all was well! It was a blessing to have the
security system for multiple reasons! First, it alerted the police,
and it also alerted you so that someone got home before the kitties
un-freaked, and decided to investigate the open door.  *whew*
