Starting the cats on a diet

With seven cats, the thought of trying to get one to lose weight is
daunting. But Velcro just had his check-up and shots, and he weighs 21
pounds, 6 ounces. He should be down around 16 pounds. So dieting is no
longer an option.

We've decided to put out measured dry food twice a day (currently at the
recommended amount as if they only ate dry, and then getting it down to
half of that over time). They get soft food several times a day. If
anyone is starving, we'll give them soft food, since it's better for
them.  We will also move some of the food bowls up higher, so Velcro has
to work to get to the food. Also, we're going to each give Velcro some
one-on-one excercise each day, to try to get the couch potato to move
some more.

We'll make all the changes slowly, to try to stress all of us the least
amount. Wish us luck. :-)

Kalynnda (and Carol), with seven soon to be annoyed furries. Here's
hoping we can eventually drop the nicknames of "lard butt", "The
Incredi-blubber", and "blubber buns".

I'm afraid I'm going to have to do the same for Amelia's sake. She's quite
a snuggle kitty, but she's also way too "fluffy". She needs to lose a few
pounds.

It should be challenging, since we currently free-feed kibble and give
them soft food in the morning. I'm going to have 6 irritated kitties when
we put those plans in effect.

Purrs for a successful diet. Caliban is quite a chubby boy (though maybe
I shouldn't compare him to svelte Miranda and skin-and-bones Frank), and
I've been trying to get him to get some extra exercise, too. Luckily he
loves his mousie/birdie on a fishing pole.
