OK, we went for a fructosomine test today. My vet called me afterwards. I
knew that was not good news. The results won't be back for a couple of days,
but she said Pearl's serum is not clear like it should be but like
strawberry milk which just is a real indication she will probably need to go
on insulin. Gad. I just want her to feel better but jeez is this poor cat
EVER going to catch a break? Just had to vent.

Purrs for both you and Pearl, Karen. You have both had a tough time of
it lately.

Vent away sweetie! Maybe after a while on insulin she can get some
help with just diet? Though, I know it isn't easy to have to change a
diet, either.

She certainly has had it a little rough lately, hasn't she?

Is she completely off systemic steroids, so there isn't anything
like that which is contributing to high glucose numbers right
now?

From what I hear, giving a cat insulin isn't too difficult, but
it sure adds another complication.  Hope you can get her
regulated and feeling like her old self before long.

She is only on flovent for the cough now. She has been off prednisone
since Oct. 23.

Jeanne H. and I both have diabetic cats. It seems overwhelming at
first. But, believe me, you soon get into a routine and a way of life.
Sheba even gets on her perch when she knows it is time for her shot!
She is very good about it. The hardest part is keeping her away from
carbs. And the boys' food has carbs in it. But we have evolved a
routine for that. And I am sure Pearl will like the extra attention.

(Waves frantically)

We're in the diabetic cat club too!  Jasper was diagnosed just over a
year ago, and we have to say that at first we were dreading having to
give shots, etc.  And now it's all just part of the routine.  He has a
blood sugar check today along with his normal six-month check-up, so
hopefully all is well.

Oh no, she is diabetic after all? I am so sorry. I hate those steroids,
just hate them.

If you've never had a diabetic cat, I got a lot of help for our cat from
the message board at www.felinediabetes.com. I could ask them anything
and would have at least 6-7 knowledgeable replies! I don't think they
ever sleep.

You two will get through this.

Take care,

Rhonda

My vet just called. SOmeone donated a glucometer and they want to give it to
me. I think that is very nice of them. Kind of another reality slam though.
