Yoj - 23 Nov 2005 20:48 GMT I just got too far behind and knew I could never catch up, so I deleted everything here when I turned on my computer this morning. For the past few days I've been away from the computer a lot, and thinking about other things.
I was away from home all day Saturday, celebrating my 70th birthday. Among other things, I celebrated by jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. I've decided skydivers need a motto. The Marines have, "The few, the proud, the Marines". Skydivers could use, "The few, the brave, the insane."
I did it and I'm glad!

There were a bunch of experienced jumpers on the plane, some of whom were going to do a formation jump. They all sang Happy Birthday to me, and after I landed, they all gathered around to congratulate me.

PatM - 24 Nov 2005 03:07 GMT OMG! You did it Joy! My hero...! I admire you for that. My dear friend Vicky who passed away 2 years ago from breast cancer embodied that song "I Hope You Dance", even to her final days. She encouraged everyone to embrace their dreams, even if they have to be adjusted because of time or illness. "To dance like no one is watching." But I've become apprehensive about change and risk through the years.... So, bully for you!!

I never thought I could do such a thing until a few months ago, when I decided I'd like to try it.

Bev - 23 Nov 2005 23:50 GMT Happy purrday Joy, from another 70-year-old who would never have had the courage to be a skydiver. Well done. Our birthdays are only three months apart so I guess you are a 1935er, it was a vintage year.

You'd probably have to pry my fingers off the edge of the door of the plane.
My late DH always said that there were only 2 things that fell from the sky. Bird poop and dang fools. (I cleaned it up a bit.)

Until a few months ago, I used to say that if I were wearing a parachute and in a burning plane, someone would have to push me out, and then pry my fingers away from the doorway.

Maybe by the time I'm 70, I'll have developed the courage (or lost sufficient common sense) to go skydiving, too. For now, I'll happily stay on the ground or deeply ensconced in any flying vehicles, thank you.
But I think it's wonderful that you did that. You've really lived up to your name! :)
