... wandering around in the parking lot of the apartment complex.  No
collar, no tag (grrrrr).  Not a stray or feral; he/she came right up to me
when I said, "Oh look at you!" and gave my hand a rub.

The cat had extremely long fur,  tan-orange and white spots with a
tan-orange tail.  You know how when a cat is scared or angry their tails
puff way up?  I'd had to see this cat in that state; already had a HUGE
tail.  So pretty.

I hope it stays safe out there.  This is a busy corner.

Why not invite it in for a snack?   MLB

I think Persia would have a fit! Remember how she reacted to that
bothersome cat across the street?

I don't know. Some cats detest some cats but love others. They are very like
us.

AWW.  I wish, I wish, I wish Stinky would like Dante.  He loved Mimi,
and Mimi didn't like him.  I feel like there is a kind of weird
deja-vu thing happening here.

It's probably a case of "do as you were done by".

Here Snowball is acting towards young Claudius just as huffily - and
biffily - as Pericles used to act towards him as a kitten.

Learned behaviour. Dear Bandit is just as kind and paternal as he's
always been, and I thank my lucky stars for that.

Persia has a fit over *every* cat she sees.  Besides, I don't have cat
snacks (unless you count my lovebird!).  Persia is on prescription food.
Anyway, this cat was too well-fed looking to need to eat at Jill's.

If there is such a thing as an ugly cat, we had one in the apartment
next door in our old place.  He would come onto our balcony from his.
Nocturne loved him, and would rub up against the glass, purring and
purring.  But we were afraid to let him in...

...and just as well, because each time new cats have actually ENTERED
Nocturne's Territory, she's thrown an absolute fit.

(Granted, she learned to love the kittens once she realized they were
small and submissive, but Smokey...she cries when he's at the vet's,
she must miss him, but when he's around, she makes it very clear how
much she hates it when he's too close to her.)

Maybe she has borderline personality disorder? :) You know, "I Hate
You, Don't Leave Me!"  :) :)

Have you tried "scent transfer"?
PatM - 24 Nov 2005 01:32 GMT
You could put a slip of a yarn "collar" around her neck with a note on
it and say you saw her almost get hit by a car or something and that
might persuade her owner to keep her indoors.  She sounds like someone
cares about her...she is well-fed and friendly...you wouldn't have to
say who you were.

too bad you don't have a garage or something where you could let it
crash for a night or two

Aww.  Maybe she/he's a neighbor and you'll see him/her again.
