To explain:  BMEzine does not condone piercing your pet.

This cat owner found that his cat had a hole in his ear, from when his
cat had gotten in a fight with another cat.  It was all healed up and
left a hole behind, just the right size for a CBR piercing ring...so
the person couldn't resist putting one in and snapping a photo.

Hilarious! That's a very hip kitty.

But WHAT is that little image in the lower-right corner? I see that
it's the link for zooming in and out of the photo, but I'm just
trying to figure out what the picture is supposed to be. It looks
like some kind weird brain with loops and spirals on it.

It's a 1/4 front-view of a drawing of a tribal mask.  If you go to the
root site, there are similar drawings.

Oh, that makes sense. Well, then I wasn't too far off. At least I did
recognize the skull-like shape!

IMHO, it's supposed to be a skull with a hoop earring.

It certainly oesn't look like it's bothering the cat at all.

Hmmmm... I have a pair of gold earrings like that!  I'd have to worry about
the cat scratching its ear and ripping the earring out.  Hopefully this was
temporary!

I believe it was just for the duration of the photo session.

That's exactly why they don't condone pet-piercing--first because it
might cause damage to the pet if the ring got caught on something, and
secondly because an animal is incapable of giving consent to a
pain-causing activity like piercing.

My dad has cows with multiple piercings...one small ID number tag in
the left ear, and a fly-repellant tag in each ear.  And yet he doesn't
like MY piercings...
