Omar, my poor little orange guy is not doing well at all. Was back at the
vet's this a.m. with him thinking this was it; he has been getting steadily
thinner and looking less well since the past weekend. He wouldn't eat last
night or this morning. My best friend Kristin met me there and she and I and
my vet all discussed what to do. Omar apparently was quite dehydrated (I
didn't pick up on it because he's so very thin now). So we're going to try
and rehydrate him, check his electrolyte levels (he got both prednisone
shots this past weekend) and see if he needed any additional prednisone .
It has occurred to us that Omar may have other unknown health problems that
we don't know about (maybe cancer?) but I just can't bring myself to subject
him to anything too invasive at this point when he is already feeling so
badly.
I told my daughter Celeste this a.m. before I took her to school that Omar
was just looking very badly and I was taking him in this morning. She asked
me if I thought Omar was going to make it to the end of the year and I told
her I thought it was very possible he would not. How could I tell her that
I thought he might not make it to the end of this day...so please, if you
can, send purrs for them both to have the chance to be with each other a
little while longer.
Will let you all know when I know more.
Sorry, I know this is a sad post. It's just so hard.

Poor guy! I hope that the re-hydration gives him a little more time
to spend with Celeste and the rest of you so you can enjoy whatever
time you all have left together.
Purrs for all of you.

I do hope Omar can manage a good rally for you.
I have lit a candle for him in my very special candle holder in the
shape of a sleeping kitty. Purrs too.

So far, not much new to report--he's been on IVs since yesterday and I went
to see him last night. He managed a purr for me when I was petting him. His
bloodwork shows that he's also anemic (I gather a week ago he was at 37 and
now he's at 27); I've been struggling with whether to put him through an
ultrasound today because I don't know if there is anything we "fix" given
his current condition if we do find a treatable cause; so far, I told my vet
it's okay to do it but I am just feeling so inadequate. I'm going to see
him again when visiting hours start in about 1:30 hours.
Many, many thanks to ya'll for all your kind messages of support; it means a
lot.

You and Omar and Celeste are in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope the medics can find out what is wrong and find a way to give Oscar
more time with you and Celeste.
These are indeed most difficult times.
