Winter is here and Otis has never been built for it in the first place -
less so now that he's approaching 10 years old.

When I open the door, he shakes all four paws at the same time, rotates in
midair and retreats back to his fleece cat bed.

He's a cat who can sleep and look indignant at the same time.

That's so funny!  It has just started to get cold here (by British
standards, anyway) and it was -3C last night.
Boyfie went out for a last toilet call around 11.30 pm, it was pretty cold.
He went out of the back door into the conservatory, peered out of the
conservatory door, smelt the cold air and shook both his back feet one by
one before he ventured out like he thought there might be snow out there!
Predictions are for -5C tonight.  Brrrr.  For some reason Boyfie says it's
not at all necessary to go on rat patrol tonight and he's curled up in front
of the fire, so is KFC.
It's electric blanket time for me too ;-)

Okay, let's do a deal.  I will take 70-75f, no higher, and you take my -5c
to cool down.
I don't think you'd want it for long!

I was born and raised in the mountains of Kentucky near the snow line :-)

Right now we're having a Chinook so its unseasonably warm in Calgary at 13 C
as the high today.  Yesterday, before the Chinook, it was -14 C.   And Windy
to boot.  Ski areas opened last week with record snow levels.

The Chinook winds come in when moist air hits the mountains, the snow drops
onto the mountains and the now warm dry air comes blasting into the city
along with a massive change in air pressure.  The temperature can literally
go from -30 to +10 C in a period of hours in the middle of the winter.  It
makes the winter bearable because it breaks up the cold.  At the same time,
people prone to headaches can be seen standing around clutching their poor
heads with the pressure changes!  There's a neat link about this at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinook_wind and even a section on our own
Alberta Chinooks!

Miranda would like to be out in the cold all the time. Strange kitty. At
least we don't have snow yet. Russian Blues are supposed to have thinner
fur than other cats (only two layers of fur as opposed to three), but
from my bunch, she is the one who insists on being outside in the
enclosure as much as possible.

LOL! Frank can do that very well, too.
