Hugo Katt is home after 6 days in the animal hospital.
After lots and lots of tests the result is: he suffers from hyperthyroidism.
He will be treated with pills. We have not started that yet because TED said
he had heard of a new Danish medicine, and he will research this and find
out if he can get a licence to import it to Sweden. We will hear from him.
I am a bit worried because Hugo Katt has always been very hard to pill.
TED said that even with medicine Hugo probably has only 6 months or a year
more to live and I am afraid he is right. I want Hugo to have a very
comfortable old age. I think he deserves that. So he will be spoiled. Even
more than before.
Thank you for all your purrs.

I sincerely hope the vet is wrong, and Hugo has a good long time left with
you. We will be sending our very best purrs.

Having a thyroid problem is just about the best thing it could have been,
because it is controllable with medication.
Kitty Farmcat would disagree with your TED too.  In August 04 she was
estimated by my TED to be 18.  She's still going strong.
Here's hoping Hugo will take his meds easily and you will see a real
difference in his health soon.

If you can get his thyroid meds adjusted properly he may just
surprise you both and take a new lease on life.  We'll certainly
be hoping and purring for that to be the way of it.

I'm glad you have your Hugo Katt home so that you can spoil him like crazy.
I am happy that you have a diagnosis and hope that you get meds for him
ASAP.  I can't believe that it took 6 days to diagnose?  Do you have other
TED's that you can interview or are you comfortable with this one?

I forget how long ago Frank was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, but it's
around 3 or 4 years. It seems very strange to me that your vet would
hold off starting the medication, whatever new meds he may or may not be
able to import. And he kept Hugo in hospital for six days to diagnose
hyperthyroidism? And did he say Hugo had such a short life expectancy
because of the hyperthyroidism, or just because he's 'so old'? I'm sorry
if I sound a bit querulous, but it all sounds very strange to me.
Anyway, we are sending lots of purrs for Hugo to prove the vet wrong and
for you to find a good pilling method (sourcream worked for us for a
long time). Since Hugo is an only cat, could you crush the pills and mix
them in his food?

Must admit, I immediately thought of Frank's case in respect of Hugo. It
also reminded me of the Stupid Vet's outlook on Francis as regards renal
failure. Both Frank & Francis are still here, happy, content and with good
quality of life. I hope the same will be true for Hugo Katt.

I'm glad Hugo Katt is home. Purrs that like Helen's Francis he proves the
vet wrong and has lots of quality life left.

When Daisy had severe hyperthyroid, she had an operation to remove her
thyroid. It worked wonders and she had a good number of years good
quality of life. She then didn't need to be pilled - it wasn't until the
problem flared up again that we put her onto medication rather than
remove the other gland. Maybe Hugocat could have that done?

Purrs for Hugo to have many long and happy years, and for this to be
treated successfully.

We are sending lots and lots of purrs and best wishes that Hugo proves
TED wrong just like Francis did. We are hoping that Hugo and you,
Elisabet, have many more years to be spent together enjoying each
other's company and Hugo enjoying being even more spoilt than he was.
We are thinking of you,
Polonca and Soncek
