I spent the day cleaning despite a bad headache (it actually seemed to
help) and everything was all nice and clean and vacuumed and neutral
smelling. Then I put some laundry in and sat down to grade. Took a
break and made a nice piece of salmon in marinade I had bought. I
thought, "Oh, I'll broil it for something different." BAD. It got smoky
in here and now it's all stinky and I have the deck door open and the
bedroom window open and the air filters going and a fan pointed out on
the deck and I didn't even like the fish because I didn't like the
marinade so I just ate my salad. ARRRRGH. Then I thought Oh, well, I'll
put the clothes in the dryer to dry. Well, while putting my filter back
in, I knocked some coin into the filter well! I didn't even see it
there but I heard it go down. Now I am totally paranoid to run the
dryer. I tried for a second, but I can hear the coin a bit and then I
think what if it gets hot and ignites the fuzz?? Plus, I don't want to
ruin the dang machine. I would suppose that there is some way to get in
there from the back and get it out, but I can't do that and meanwhile I
have a pile of wet laundry. I'll have to get maintainence to look at
it. So now I'll have to squeeze into an uncomfortable pair of jeans
tomorrow instead of my favorite work ones (which will not be dry by
tomorrow.) and I'm just irritated. ARRRRRRGH. I know there are worse
things, but jeez, it seemed like an OK and fairly productive day until
all this.

Argh is right. I know exactly how that feels. Purrs! Hope your drier can
be fixed.

Arrgh. And you were doing great in the face of rotten odds to start with.
At least the fish should have tasted good. What a lot of disappointment.
Also makes me feel just a tiny bit kinder toward the guy who is supposed to
be fixing my washer. At least it works, Even if it does leak down the
driveway while its running.

I would say not to worry about it. There's a quarter stuck somewhere
in the gear shift of my car. It was on the "belt" when I shifted from
drive into park, and when I tried to pull it out, it got pushed in
entirely. It's been in there for about a year now, and the car's still
going fine...

and we've got a 10c piece stuck inside our very expensive car cd player.
it's still working fine; in fact it's actually worked better since our
darling son shoved it in there....

I have washed so damn much change thanks to DP, fuzz does not ignite so
easily. I can get a buck or two out of the filter sometimes.
If the coin's in a place where it cant' catch in the filter, there
probably isn't much fuzz there.

Karen, I don't think a coin in the filter well is a big deal. Turn the
dryer on and listen. If you don't *hear* it (and you probably won't), it's
OK. The dryer's filter isn't really a mechanical device that could be
fouled by foreign matter (within reason, of course). After all, it's
supposed to catch the lint in the air before it goes out the exhaust duct.
If you do hear a grinding/rubbing sound, of course, turn the dryer off
immediately and wait for somebody to fix it.
