Watch this peculiar video about how a cat reacts when certain parts of its
body is adorned with a piece of tape. It doesn't appear that this cat is all
too happy with the tape job.

Don't try this at home.

That looks mean!! I didn't watch it to the end - got sick of hearing
people laughing at a cat that looked unnerved and uncomfortable.

I agree - that's not at all funny, it's just plain cruel.  Why anyone would
take pleasure in the discomfit of another creature, I don't know - but then
again there are people out there who love to torture or just beat up on
creatures smaller and more helpless than they.

It's very tempting....

Thanks, Tammy, that was a real side-splitter!!!

Okay. Now I'd like to try an experiment to see how well the
perpetrators of this nasty little film would walk with a generous piece
of duct-tape stuck to various hairy parts of *their* anatomy. I bet if
it were stuck in the right place, they'd walk sideways too.

Poor kitty.

That was my thought, too.  That was cruel and inhumane treatment of
that poor little kitty, and not the least bit funny.

That was cellophane tape,. not duct tape.

Nothing.  She doesn't have one.

I see a short, squatty tail.

Anyone else?
Gennie - 12 Nov 2005 05:13 GMT
The unfortunate cat in the video is most likely a Japanese Bobtail, a
breed that is as common in Japan as it is rare in the U.S.

Britta's Vino, I believe, is part or full Bobtail.

Ah, thank you Gennie. What a pleasant and informative response.
I assume this breed is actually born without tails?
Gennie - 12 Nov 2005 05:43 GMT
The Japanese Bobtail is characterised by naturally occuring pom-pom
tails and very long back legs.
Sort of an Asian counterpart of the tailless Manx cats of Europe
perhaps? Both of the breeds are thought to have been the result of
natural genetic mutation.

Here's an interesting link:

(And, yes! That poor cat was very cruelly treated! GRRRR!)

I guess that is what I really wanted to know--if his tormentors
hat "docked" his tail too.

This reminds me so much of Betty the first time I tried putting a
harness on her.  She high stepped, fell over, and generally acted
trapped and persecuted.

When I took her outside though, she forgot all about her harness and
took in the outdoors with wonder.  She looked at the ceiling of trees
swaying in the wind, the tall grass.  Her ears twitched at the songs
of the birds and the scrabbling of squirrels.

The difference being you put a harness on her for *her* saftey and enjoyment
of the outdoors, *NOT* for your enjoyment of her discomfiture!

I like to take a piece of tape connect to his nut sack and see how he walks
