I got an unexpected and seemingly out-of-character message from her AOL
address. Two other people I know who use AOL have been hacked (or spoofed,
or hijacked or whatever you want to call other people sending unsolicited
e-mail from your address) within the last month, and I needed confirmation
that she herself did indeed send the e-mail and that the content was
genuine.
Sherry did contact me later and understood my concern about the message I
received. Its all be sorted out now. Thanks, Sherry

I remember Instant Messaging! I was infatuated with it for a month or so
before it became completely annoying. I thought it had gone out of fashion
because of how vulnerable it makes your PC to viruses, trojans, worms and
etc. I guess they must have fixed that.

Thanks for the explanation. Most of my family are on AOL, so I was worried.

Anyone can send email that appears to be from any account. I could
easily send an email that appeared to be from someone else, and a
naive user wouldn't know the difference. It doesn't mean that their
account has been hacked, though, and there's nothing they can do about
it.
If you send an email *to* that address, on the other hand, it should
go to its intended recipient unless someone else has the password.
