It seems like a bunch of you have added to your families in the very
recent past, and I've been further adopted recently myself by Jungle
Jack.  He's a light-coloured Siamese mix (gold- or flame-point, it's
been suggested) with some faint tabby striping on his face/legs/tail,
estimated to be two years old or so.  You can see him at
http://web.mr-happy.com/~jfb/ablum/pets/junglejack.php .  The outdoor
pictures make him look smaller than he really is, I think.  (Regular
readers of abpa may recognise those three outdoor pics.)

He started coming around my house earlier this fall, and one day, I
made a noise at him through the window as he was slinking through my
back yard.  To my surprise, he turned and meowed at me, so I went out
to see if he'd let me check him over, since I'd been concerned about
him and the rapidly-cooling weather.  He was nervous and kept his
distance but didn't run off.  I'd get close, he'd start walking away,
I'd retreat toward the house, he'd meow at me, repeat, repeat, repeat.
Finally it seemed like he'd had enough, so I went inside and got a
little food and managed to set it down without scaring him off, and he
ate it right up.  Afterward, I offered him a sniff of my fingers.  He
sniffed, he rubbed his face a little, I scritched his head a little,
and he was sold on me.  He seemed in good health (later confirmed by
the vet--no worms even), if a little underweight, not neutered.  No
luck finding his people, if any.

I've had one funny story about him since before he even came inside.
I was home from work for lunch, and he made his regular appearance in
my yard, so I set down a bowl of food for him on the deck and let him
eat.  When he finished, he came up and crawled into my lap for a few
minutes as I sat on the top step in my back yard (where he is in the
first and third outside pics).  Then he suddenly stood up, stared at a
spot in the grass for a couple seconds, and set himself flying through
the air.  He landed exactly on the spot he'd been eyeing, two or three
feet away, and SQUEEEEEEEEeeeeeeek!  Up pops his head immediately, a
now-ex-mouse in his jaws.  Very much a first for me, a cat jumping
directly from my lap onto live "dessert".  And that was my cue to head
back to work.

Anyway, I brought him inside two weeks ago today.  It was cold and
rainy, and I hadn't seen him all of that day.  I finally went to set
some food out in a makeshift shelter, a large pet taxi with the gate
removed, wrapped in a tarp to keep the rain out--only he was already
around, hanging out around the back of the house.  I couldn't take it
any more and got him inside, and so he remains.

Up now: integration.  It's going slowly, but I think it's going.  The
other three lawgivers in the house detest the newcomer, always hissing
and growling at him, but they seem to be allowing him to get a little
closer now before getting all fired up.  Grizzly will sometimes even
allow a brief nose-sniff before she reminds him what she thinks of
him, though I wonder if that usually happens when she's not expecting
the cat in her face to be Jungle Jack.  My main concern is that he
seems to be displaying some slightly aggressive tendencies at times,
striking a pose that reminds me of the other three during a play-fight
"strategy pause", or sometimes slinking-running after a retreating
cat.  I'd like to think he just wants to play when he's doing that,
but with all the hissing and growling from whichever cat he's sizing
up, it doesn't seem likely that he's expecting to play.  Usually,
though, he steers clear of those expressing distaste.  I keep him
isolated when I can't supervise the lot, so I don't think there's any
real danger to anyone at this point.  Neutering him could clear that
up, couldn't it?  I'm hoping so, anyway, but that's still almost two
weeks away. <drums fingers>

But most of the time, he's a happy cat, *extremely* playful and
energetic.  He just loves when he can crawl into my lap and roll
around while I scritch every inch of his back, head, and belly.  What
a cool guy.

In other new-cat news, my cousin went to his local shelter to get
adopted today, too, and came home with a very cute pair.  They have no
names yet, but there's a picture of them at [KFW KFW KFW]
http://andy.mr-happy.com/gallery/Loki/100_1326 [KFW KFW KFW].  What a
guy, my cousin, sticking pictures of kittens in his d*g gallery. <g>

he's beautiful! he looks like a cream point siamese in colour, but he's not
pure bred, maybe a cross between a shorthair or burmese or something,

You took him in!!! Good for you. Neutering will definitely help. Keep
us posted. My those kittens are ADORABLE!

Yep, got that rule about no cold-and-wet kitties in the back yard. <g>

>Neutering will definitely help.

Thanks for the reassurance.  Coming out around the others clearly
makes him anxious, and too much of being disliked seems to set him
off.  He charged Grizzly twice this evening, stopping short of
actually doing anything--she's the most vocal about him, getting that
low, gurgly "rraow-rraow-rraow" growl going when he gets within a foot
or two of her.  Enough of that, I took him in his room, and he settled
down on my lap in there right away.  And the other day, he started
sizing up Jimmer after Jimmer took a swat at him for not clearing out.
So I can't wait till snip day, and I sure hope it does the trick.  I
really need him to take it easy on Jimmer, who came to me with no
front claws and might not be able to defend himself adequately if it
came to that.

>My those kittens are ADORABLE!

Yeah, the little, stripey fuzzball just gives me the "acks".  I can't
wait to meet them both around Thanksgiving.

Just remember, it could take two or three weeks after the snip for his
hormones to settle down. So don't expect an immediate change.

I second that motion!  Finn, our intact male, is just now beginning to calm
down...he still roams, but not as frequently.

I enjoyed your pictures, and the bitties are darling.

Oh my, he is quite handsome!  He appears to be similar to my
Seal/Delilah and Smeagol.  My vet said they are Lynx point Siamese.
Born white (or creme) colored, then gain their markings (the tabby
markings on the face, legs, and tail) as they grow.  Him is a gorgeous
boy him is.

Oh, yeah, he is a bit.  Jungle Jack doesn't have the stripes on his
sides like those two appear to, but I still see what you mean.

Good job with Gracie, by the way.  That was a nice story, and I'm glad
she's safe now!

He looks like he has oodles of character. Very nice boy, hope he starts
getting along with your three soon. The kittens are adorable, of course.

He does, and he's so funny to watch.  When he pounces on a toy, his
paws plow out in front of him along the floor, seems so kitten-like.
When he's not playing or in my lap, he's usually rolling around on his
back, begging for a tummy rub.  Which I'm only too happy to supply, of
course. <g>  If I start scritching his head then, he reaches up with
both paws to grab my hand and/or push it down to his belly.  And when
I'm holding him, he just tries to rub his face over as much of my head
as he can reach.  Such a goof.

I can relate to your story, Jeff.  Miss Pua and Miss Chloe are still at war,
but if Pua's sleeping, Chloe will come up and sniff her tail.  They touch
noses, too, but the growls and hisses that come from Chloe (not to mention
the criss-cross scars on Pua's nose) tells me that she's not happy about the
newcomer.  Tyrone is eating from Pua's food bowl and using her litterbox,
however.

Gosh, Jungle Jack looks so much like Pua, except she doesn't have the tiger
lines in her.  Almost wish we could have gotten them together before she got
fixed to see what the kittens would have turned out to be!

Kili,

I was wondering how Miss Pua was doing. Did you get rid of the ringworm
pretty quickly, or did she need a lot of baths?

How much did she weigh when you found her (wasn't it 3 lbs?), and how
about now?

She looks so healthy. That's so wonderful that you could save that girl.

I gave her about 6 baths and then a kind soul sent me some lymdip.  (Gosh, I
wish I could find her e-mail address to thank her; we reformatted and
despite my hubby saying we wouldn't lose the addresses, we DID!)  So far
between the baths and the lymdip she seems to be fine.  I keep watching for
more spots, but I haven't seen any.  I'm watching the other cats for spots,
too, none found.

The last vet trip I took her on, she weighed in at 7 pounds.  She's still
got a ways to go, though.  Her fur isn't smooth and silky like it should be,
so I asked Jill what she thought I should get by means of food supplement.
I'm hoping that will make a difference.  She's just such a loving little
girl - she follows me everywhere, especially to the bathroom!  She knows the
difference between the sound of me going to the bathroom and my husband.  If
he gets up in the night and goes, she doesn't budge, but if I do, she's got
to be in there with me.  I don't get it!  LOL

So glad you got rid of it. I think I got rid of it, too. None of the
cats have any spots, and I never got more than one little spot that's
gone now. The vet tested Caliban when he was in for neutering the other
week, but it will be a while before I get the results.

It's wonderful that she's filling out! For a glossy coat, give her lots
of fat - since she is skinny, she can have lots of fatty things. A
tablespoon or two of cream or sourcream every day should make her fur
glossy.

That will work?  Sour cream?  I wonder if she'd eat it.  She likes chicken,
but isn't into crab all that much.  She'd rather play with it.  To be
honest, I think this is the first home she's had.  She doesn't know what to
do with a lot of things.  She does love the cat toys we have strewn about
though.  :~)

Which continues to beg the question-- where on earth did she come
from?  She obviously has some careful breeding there.  How did this
sweet, pretty little puss get thrown away?  Of course, we will
probably never know, but it boggles the mind.

She sounds like she is extremely grateful. She knows you saved her...

7 pounds is pretty good! She was battling a lot of health problems all
at once.

I'm glad she's better and happy to be inside with you. I'll bet you feel
great every time you look at your healthy cat!
