Norm - 04 Nov 2005 14:02 GMT some observations: o an inveterate kitchen can turner-over, just like my last Siamese. Doesn't have to be anything in it, practice is good enough. o Knows all about begging at dinner, complete with light paw tap. o Knows how to use paw to clean last vestige from empty cans with paw. o unabashed "throne queen" o no longer caterwauling but always has comments to make o loves ice cream, chop bones.
For a couple weeks I've been waking up at midnight or so and, thinking it's morning, starting my eBay searches. Fnally it dawned on me, it's Simon exercising influence by meowing in my ear at odd hours.

The cats woke me up. I thought well, I'll do all my morning abolutions first and then there won't be that much nag time for food before I can take her in. I got up took a shower, did my hair and makeup. Thought, OK, that should have eaten up a lot of time. Looked at the clock. IT WAS 5:30 am.!!!!!! AAARRGH :)
I'm so glad Simon is settling in.

Fnally it dawned > on me, it's Simon exercising influence by meowing in my ear at odd > hours. Oscar likes to wake me up at odd hours of the night to be pet. Because I was at a disadvantage, being half-asleep, it took me a while to realize what's going on.
Somehow she developed the habit, instead of meowing, of making noises around the room. Rustle a piece of paper. Paw at a cardboard box. Scratch on some furniture. Jump on something. When I go from fully asleep to only half-asleep because of these noises, she comes up to get pet, purring like a boat motor, and I, not realizing I've been set up, reinforce the behavior by petting her.
Sigh.
Some days I think Tweed has the right idea. But I like having a kitty in my bed in the morning -- once I've had a full night's sleep!

Snoopy's method of waking me is /very/ cute, she just purrs as loudly as she can, right by my ear. How could anyone be annoyed by that? ;-)

How could anyone be annoyed by that? ;-) Sugar uses the Oscar method above. Pearl comes up and puts her paw on my mouth for some reason. I suppose it is the oblique way of saying FOOD MOUTH FOOD MOUTH.

How could anyone be annoyed by that? ;-) That's Stinky, too, for the most part-- as I wrote below, he's very gentle. OTOH, there are the times I get a cold, wet nose pressed firmly to an eyelid. ;) GAH!

Fnally it dawned [quoted text clipped - 16 lines] >Some days I think Tweed has the right idea. But I like having a kitty >in my bed in the morning -- once I've had a full night's sleep! I am extremely lucky-- neither of the boys is pushy about getting me up, they are both pretty happy to cuddle in the a.m. Of course, if I stay in bed unusually long, the noodging starts-- but it is pretty gentle compared to what I've heard (and experienced).
I am constantly astonished at how similar Dante is in temperament to Stinky-- jolly, calm, affectionate, playful, alert and receptive without being freaky, a great bon vivant, and often content just to hang out with me or near me. It's like having Stinky as a kit all over again-- and that's really fantastic, a strange blessing . If only Stinky would get to like him.
My tiny tux terrorist Mimi, was particularly terrifying in the morning, when her main tactic was knocking things off other things onto the floor. She would start small-- combs, keys, etc., and work up to telephones and computer keyboards.

Susan M - 05 Nov 2005 01:13 GMT > some observations: > o Knows all about begging at dinner, complete with light paw tap. THE PAW TAP!! I love it. Otis has that too. He will tap for dinner, for pets, to get me to roll over, to get under the covers. He sheaths his claws (unless I haven't responded) then taps away. I get a real kick out of it.

Not normally as she usually pretends she wants nothing to do with me. Unless I'm asleep and warm, the food bowl is empty, or the door is shut.
But I have arthritis and sometimes the pain will keep me awake at night. One thing that helps if it is really bad is to soak in a warm bath. Some times for a long time, as in let out the cooling water and add more warm, fall asleep in the tub long time. Last two times around four AM I get this "hey ma, are you OK?" paw tap on my shoulder to wake me up. Once I'm awake and she is sure I'm OK she takes off again.

When Flicka (RB) was less than a year old she was in the habit of sleeping (well, she slept part of the time) on my bed, while her sister slept on my parents' bed. I was used to her walking all over the bed, so I didn't wake up much, even when she wandered over my pillows.
Then one night she woke me out of a sound sleep by biting my ear hard enough so it bled. I've no idea why, except that she was still a kitten and it was there. Naturally, I erupted, not knowing what had happened, and knocked her half-way across the room.
About that time the kitties decided to swap night-time accommodations and Flicka never again slept on my bed at night, though she occasionally did so during the day.
