A morsel of cheer

There's been so much real tragedy lately that I've quite lost my
natural optimism & enthusiasm for life.

Wonderful heartwarming events such as our lurker's donation to Hannah
Eve's funeral do much to redress the balance (I'd like to add my
humble thanks & admiration to those already expressed for that
kindness), but without in any way wishing to impinge on the need for a
period of mourning I'd like to suggest that each of us should post
something cheerful or clever (or just plain "nice") like several
people do in their signatures, as a bit of a counterbalance.

Here's one of my favourite short pieces, written by Dilys Laing &
quoted in the 1991 book "The Cat's Mind" by Bruce Fogle DVM MRCVS:

"I put down my book
"'The Meaning of Zen'
"And see my cat smiling into her fur
"as she delicately combs it with her rough pink tongue.
"'Cat, I would lend you this book to study,
"'but it appears that you have read it already.'
"She looks up and gives me her full gaze.
"'Don't be ridiculous' she purrs: 'I wrote it.'"

Further contributions gratefully received.

Pericles (red tabby maine coon) is between me & the keyboard and rubs
his head against my caressing (free) hand in what I hope is
approbation.

Purrs to all in proportion to your need

Here's something that's not at all uplifting but funny as all heck.

OK, there's a naughty language warning that goes with this, and it involves
d*gs, but it's still *SO* funny to me:

Just a small bit of happiness -- right now I have dainty Miss Oreo-girl
taking a very thorough washing in my lap, preparatory for a premium snooze.
She's the kitty we rescued from underneath my kids' school library in 2001
and was sooo skittish it's taken her till this year to decide that my lap is
a warm and comfy place to sleep.

We had our annual moggie cat show yesterday .... and the winner was a big
ginger ex-stray who had been homeless for a while before his owner took him
in. He won 'Best Ginger / Best Ginger and white' and ' Friendliest natured
male' before going on to win 'Best Shorthair' and 'Best In Show'

He's called Tommi, and he's a darling.

That's a beautiful story, thanks.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

There will be soon. I didn't take the digicam, because I thought I'd be too
busy with the administration of the show to take pictures, but I did take a
disposable camera. I will be getting it developed onto a CD and updating our
webpage sometime next week :) I'll post here when I do.

Being alternately a sensitive guy and a gross vulgarian, I say there's
nothing like a sick joke to pick up one's spirits.  This link is to a
Dutch TV commercial ad that had won a prize at an advertising
convention before the attendees found out that the producers had made
up an imaginary client to justify this demo piece.

WARNING,  you will be shocked.  It is, however, funny.  I guarantee
that you will say to yourself, "Did I hear that right?"  Don't say I
didn't warn you.  Turn the sound up.

Oh my!  :)
Exocat - 20 Sep 2004 22:11 GMT
Thanks for the thought OJ, but currently I have no sound output from
my 'puter.
Given a few hours I suppose I could rig something up with an external
amp. & my sound system at the other end of the house but it's quite a
job so I'd rather not.

I have no trouble with vulgarity, mind, so any post (perhaps suitably
flagged to forewarn the sensitive) or e-mail (replace the Roman 10
with their 1,000 to unmunge my addy) you care to send will be
appreciated.

M

It goes I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X (1 through 10, then just
keep adding Is, Vs and Xs until you get to 50) - then 50 is L, 100 is C, 500
is D, and 1,000 is M.

Dangitall, am I the only one who can't see this?  I've tried several
times, but my puter just sits there and makes hourglasses at me, and
nothing ever happens.  *sob*

Go for the kitty film instead. It's lovely and has several different file
formats to download.
