Purrs please for Claudius

The evil day has almost arrived: at 10am tomorrow GMT he goes to TED for the
nobbling of his nuts. And some treatment for acne on his chin: my little
hooliadolescent has spots!

He had his last meal at 7pm so will soon be looking forward to his theatre
supper, followed by elevenses and then the midnight feast, and I'm not
looking forward to his reaction when they aren't forthcoming. I fear there's
a sleepless night ahead.

In the meantime my pesky 'puter went down (started with a RAM problem then
wouldn't boot up at all) but is still under guarantee so has gone back for
free fixing. I've resurrected my "old" one as emergency backup but have lost
touch for a few days. Belated purrs therefore for Trixie, Chumley's hoomin,
and others in need, purrs of pleasure for Isis/Lotus/Miss Whiskers and her
lucky hoomin, and so forth.

Claudius is 2 days short of his 6-months half-birthday and with a full tummy
weighs in at 4 kilos, 8.8 lbs. Sorry Cal, you haven't overtaken your Pres.
yet!

So a few spare purrs for his general anaesthetic to be OK and him to
withstand the rigours of 22+ hours starvation would be appreciated.

Purrs en route for his safety and starvation. Here, they only make you
withhold food from midnight the night before, so there's less trouble with
that.

Purrs and prayers that Purrsident Claudius goes through the procedure
unscathed.

PS Lily was already spayed when I got her from PEtSmart. Apparently they no
longer let you adopt unless the kitty is fixed. The stitches were still in
when I got her, but thank goodness they were the kind that just melts so she
didn't have to go to TED to have them removed.

Why do they call it a fast when it goes so slow?

Purrs on the way for you, to withstand the sleepless night and
heartwrenching meows of your starving boy and for Claudius to do well with
his surgery.  I know how nerve wracking it is when our babies are in the
surgery.

Many purrs on the way for the Claws. Caliban is working hard on the
weight thing, he is determined to become bigger than the Prez. He may
also be eating in sympathy. Whatever it is, he is eating ravenously at
the moment. We are keeping everything crossed that all goes well.

Belated purrs for Claudius, hope all went well, Gordon.
Re the acne, do you use plastic dishes?

Oh, I forgot to mention, Caliban has acne on his chin too! What are you
doing to it, Gordon? I've been cleaning it daily, but it doesn't seem to
get better. I use ceramic foodbowls and the water dishes are stainless
steel. Of course, he would rather not drink out of a water dish, but
goes for any water anywhere else - he's the first cat I've had that
drinks from my glass of water, and yesterday, he drank from a mixing
bowl that was standing in the sink with water in it to soak. He's always
drinking 'flavoured' water from dishes soaking in the sink.

Could be hormonal, in which case it should subside in a couple of weeks.
Try upping the chin-wiping to after each meal in case something in the food
triggers it off.
In the old days a mild hydrogen peroxide (IIRC) solution could be applied,
but I think there are better antibacterials available now (that's what my
vet's nurse said anyway). It might be possible to get something from your
TED without having to take the lad in?

Obviously Cal's a spotty hoolikittEEn too  :-)

Purrs it's all better soon.

Vino has had a couple of bouts with acne.  All his dishes are
stainless steel, but I think because it's so hot here all the time the
bacterias breed everywhere.   I've successfully gotten rid of the zits
by sqeezing them and then washing his chin with soap and water every
day.  I also clear off his food dishes as soon as he's finished eating
now.  Even if there's leftovers.
