Strange features of your cat?

The thread about Miss Whiskers has me wondering, who here has a cat
that's got one eye or three legs or no tail or extra toes or some other
"unusual feature?"  And do you know why your cat has this "feature?"

Smokey, Kumani and Tyche look pretty standard.

Nocturne has a bald spot the size of a dime on the back of her neck
above her shoulders.  When we got her, she had a scab there.  The vet
knocked off the scab, tested for ringworm, and said the fur would go
back.  Well, there was no ringworm but the fur never did grow back.

The oddest pet I ever had was a calf with no eyes.  He was born with no
eyeballs (just empty pink sockets).  His weird appearance didn't bother
me as his sockets were nicely skinned over (my friends thought they'd
be like, bloody gaping holes or something like that--but they weren't
disgusting at all).  I taught him to walk on halter so he could get
some exercise without worrying about banging into things.

Not so unusual but Hobo is a polydactyl with 24 toes.  Otherwise he
and Speck are both pretty mundane & "normal".

The only one of the seven with an unusual "feature" is Rufous. He has a
very small kink at the very tip of his tail. You can't see it, of couse,
him being all fluffy and stuff, but you can certainly touch it.

Rusty is a syndactyl missing a toe on each of his paws.
The vet said it is genetic. I think it may be  more unusal than polydactyl
since I haven't heard anyone mention this.
Rusty also has both black and white whiskers. But I don't know whether
this is unusal or not.

Had a kitty with a bad back leg from a leg-hold trap. But it didn't slow him
down, he was still a bad a.s.

Had a kitty with a tail bobbed by the car fan. Grisly at the time, but kitty
lived many more years afterwards.

Ripley is missing a toe, when he turned up as a stray he had a REALLY bad
infection in it, and antibiotics wouldn't cure it. The vet said that it was
in the bone, and advised amputation in case it went cancerous.

Cav only has one eye, he was hit by a car whilst he was on the waiting list
to come into Cats Protection care. His owner had four cats of his own, and
four that had belonged to his deceased mother, Cav was one of the four
belonging to his mother, and the guy couldn't afford to look after eight
cats. Cats Protection paid Cav's vet bill because he was due to come in for
rehoming anyway.

Izzi, Fenda, Spooky, Charlie and Fuzzbox (all RB now) all had everything but
their reproductive bits, but I once fostered a three legged ginger tom
kitten called Sergeant Barney Trouble. He was adorable, he had his leg
amputated because he lost his foot when he was a few days old, the cord got
wrapped around it and it just went black and dropped off. He was signed over
to us because he was 'hard to home' and our vet advised that if he kept the
leg, he'd always be banging it and injuring it, and hurting the stump, so we
decided to amputate. A three month old kitten coming round from an
amputation is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. :(  Barney is the
only one of my fosters that I really wish I'd kept, I did lose my heart to
him.

Well, I always thought Little Feet and Presto (RB) were pretty normal,
but you can judge for yourselves:

 or

I mean, aside from Presto's titanium protection spikes, and little
Feet's super-sizing and multiplication powers, they're reasonably
normal...

Vino's got no tail.  Well, he has a 1 cm nub but he can move it!  He's
like that because he's half Japanese Bobtail and with them, unlike the
Manx, you only need 1 parent to be a bobtail for all the offspring to
be bobtails.
Vino also has some strange growths in one ear.  Little "sticks" of
skin that stick out and a few of them have fur on the ends.  It's not
obvious.  He's had it all his life, it's probably just some small sort
of birth defect.

Will is polydactyl.  Also he has an undershot jaw, which I would
assume is a genetic feature.  (Yellow cat with a prominent
jaw...hmmm.... Some day, as he leaves the room, I expect to
hear, "Exit -- hot-footin' it all the way -- stage left."  <s>

Purdey (RB) ended up missing most of his tail owing to an unfortunate
encounter with a car.  The car numberplate suffered as well; it broke in
two.  The tail broke in several places, so the vet amputated at the
break nearest the body, leaving Purdey with a six-inch stump. But that
stump was still very expressive.

Years later he was involved in another "incident" - we don't know what,
but guess that something (hot water or a chemical of some sort) was
thrown over him.  He lost all his fur in a saddle shape over his back,
and his sides came up in two horrid scabs.  Once these had healed, he
was left with a bald patch; it furred up over the years, but only fine,
wispy grey fluff as opposed to his luxuriant black coat.  So now we had
a cat with a bald back, half a tail, and the belligerent expression he
was born with.

Bozo (1982-1999) had some unique patterns,  strictly black and white,
but had one black ear,  and one white ear.  But everything else about
his markings was asymmetrical.  He was also rather large,  weighing in
at 20 lbs (9 Kg).  I had to re-home him in 1987,  due to a series of
moves,  and intolerant landlords,  but he was WELL cared for.  Despite
having feline diabetes,  and a few other chronic ailments,  Bozo lived
pert near 18 years.   I may be able to find a couple of old snapshots
of him,  when I clean out the back room.  I know they're in there. :-)

Neat topic, Fil!
Yoda's a poly. But all of them have cute little funny things about
them. Frank's fangs hang down over his bottom lip when his mouth is
closed. Boots has all black toe-pads except for one real cute little
pink one. Bosley has a *serious* case of orange-cat lentigo. Freckly
mouth! Bozzy also has the longest legs I ever saw on a cat.

Vino's getting freckly mouth!  When he was a kitten, he was solid
pink, but as he gets older, he gets more and more freckles.

I had a challenge trying to think of a way to ask it politely.  I got
angry when people called my calf Blinkers a freak for having no eyes,
but he was certainly unusual looking :)

We laugh because Kumani has black paw-pads except for two pink toes,
and Tyche has pink paw-pads except for two black toes.  TWISTED
SISTERS!!

Your post reminded me of my pet calf, Whitey. He was an orphaned little
Charolais. I raised him on a bottle, and he would follow me everywhere.
Trouble was, he got to be a 1300-lb. steer who would still knock me
down if he saw a bottle. I would not let my parents sell him. Finally
they did anyway, it was so traumatic! Lots of people think cows are
just dumb smelly beasts, but they do actually make pets sometimes.

Cows are *not* dumb, and they are terribly curious.  I've always been
amused at how when you stand outside a pasture and look at them, they
come right up to the fence and look right back at you, chewing away
nonchalantly.  They would do surprisingly well in NYC, I think. ;)

I *love* cows.  I think they are so sweet.  I'm from cow and corn country in
upstate New York...I used to get really irritated when people at college
talked about cow tipping.  Not only are cows sweet animals, but they are
expensive as well.

Hmmmm, I seem to have pretty standard issue cats.  Pan has macular
degeneration in his right eye, which has turned it mostly brown, rather
than the pale green of his other eye. It does not seem to be hurting
him, or bothering him, and he can see well enough to have depth
perception, at any rate. He can make it up on the bed and up on the
table with no problems.

Francesca has two-tone black and white whiskers, but I think it makes
her look quite distinctive. =o)

Nina has quite a long tail, which she often wears curled UP and forward
over her back. She's the only cat I've ever had that holds her tail in
that position habitually.  It does everything a cat needs a tail to do,
though

His Royal Feline Lordship Tiger only has one eye. He says it makes him
look more dashing. ;o) He had congenital cataracts which developed
complications when he was a baby and the vet suggested that the eye was
removed so that there were no further problems.

Cleo has a tiny black spot of fur on her chin - it looks like someone
just dabbed her with a paintbrush.

My male cat Andy is a polydactyl tabby with 22 toes. His other most
prominent distinguishing feature is the somewhat diamond shaped white
spot on his nose. He also has white boots.

Willow (RB) had no missing parts, etc...however she had a bit of schmutz on
the side of her nose.  Basically it was a brown patch of hair.  I used to
kiss it.  My mom thought she had bald ears...they weren't bald...they were
just sparsely haired.

Finn MacCool is just gorgeous...nothing too odd about him.  He looks like he
got patted with a white powder puff under his chin and right under his nose.
He is very kissable.  He is also incredibly talkative.  We are still working
on our language barriers.

DH's cat has no tail, she was run over when she was a kitten, and was
left tied up in a plastic bag in a bin where DH found her.  She's
called Roots, and is the tiniest fully grown cat I've ever seen, but
she's an absolute bully, she goes down to the cat in the flat beneath
her and scoffs her food, and won't let the dog in the flat above down
the stairs, poor thing.  She tapped DH on the face one morning to wake
him up, and she'd brought him a mouse and placed it on his chest for
inspection, mmm nice.

LOL! Sounds just like my Nikki. She was petite, but had the heart of a lion.

Spicey has white spatz on her feet. Her toes are white and beige. Her paw
pads are mostly pink with a couple of black blotches. It looks like she
has dirt crumbs between some toes.

Cleo has the longest whiskers I've ever seen on any feline, all white
except one.  Her fur feels like rabbit fur.  Although most of her gray
fur is evenly colored, her tail has slightly darker rings around it.
And her feet are so white they glow in the dark.

Samson's fangs hang down too far, so when his mouth is closed he looks
like a vampire.  He is always dressed in proper gothic black fur too.
His torso and tail fur is about 5 inches long.  Samson also has an
extra long tail.  His fangs hang down because he got a gum infection.

Trouble is the real weirdo.  She is a mostly black tortie.  She has an
extra toe on each foot, but seven claws on the front paws.  Yes,
that's six toes and seven claws per front foot.  All of her claws grow
so fast that she needs them trimmed every three days.  She has a wide
kitten shaped face although she is four years old.  A two tone nose.
One ear is black and the other is orange.  She has a very thin line of
white fur above and below each two tone eye that look like eyelashes,
white eyelashes.  And her whiskers are: right side all black except
one white one and the fur behind them is black, left side all white
except three black ones and the fur behind them has creamy streaks so
if you just glance at her she looks like she has only one whisker on
one side and three whiskers on the other side.  Her chest is orange
marmalade.  She has both regular tabby stripes and mandrel stripes on
her orange and black body so her side fur has a sort of curved
checkerboard pattern to it.  Her orange and black tail is a little too
short for her body length and it has rings around it as well as two
stripes that run the entire length, one stripe on the top side and one
on the bottom.
