Caliban is home

Everything went well with Caliban's snip and he is home and fully awake.
Seems a bit confused, and does the cello-practising position a lot, and
then looks at me like, 'there's something missing here, isn't there?'

He was not at all pleased with getting no food in the morning. He had to
spend a lot of time in the bathroom so the other cats would get to eat
in peace. At around 11 he went completely mad and dashed around the
flat, flinging everything and anything that got in his way hither and
thither. His temper didn't improve any when I put him in the carrier. He
immdiately proceeded to rip apart the newspaper at the bottom of the
carrier, and demolishing the old t-shirt on top of the newspaper.

At the vet's, when I let him out of the carrier, he went flying about
the surgery walls. He hissed at the vet (last time, he purred for her!).
Only when he'd had his sedative and was put into a cage did he calm
down. Well, I was told to come back for him in two hours' time. I was
there half an hour too early, but Caliban was ready and awake, and very
much ready to go home, so I just had to stuff him in the carrier and
bring him home.

Frank met us at the door. It quite seemed like he had missed the little
guy (well, not so very little - he already weighs 3.7 kilos (8.1 lbs)!
Frank only weighs 2.8 kilos (6.1 lbs) now).

Now Caliban is happily munching away at a full bowl of food. The vet
tech said I could feed him at once, since he was already fully awake at
the vet's.

Fortunately, both Caliban and Miranda are pure angels on the bus - nary
a peep out of either one. It will make going to the island much easier.

How nice and quick that went.  Caliban is one wild kitten boy!  Poor
thing, having to be starved and trapped.

Hehehe... when Fez and Rufous got their snip, their giblets were
getting large, I'm sure they missed for a while. :)

That's fast! I know it's a fast surgery (I've heard it takes someone
with practice less than 15 seconds to do a male cat), but that's very
fast.

Frank is such a good uncle! He looks bigger in pictures to, I thought
Basho was tiny at 8.5 lbs.

That's going to be a lot of fun, with two kittens!

Give Caliban extra scritches for being so good. :)

Dante's set are the biggest part of him.  :O He's so slender and

Caiban's were pretty big too. No wonder he's confused that they're gone
now. Poor baby.

Wow. 2 hours? We always have to leave them the whole day. I'm so glad he is
home and relatively happy.

Yes, and since I got there half an hour too early, it was really only
1.5 hours. Caliban seems fine, though.

Delighted it went so well.

I'm afraid Claudius too is quite likely to get the Zoomies at TED's,
since
he's still so zoomy at home.

Lucky you to only have 2 hours to leave him, here it's most of the day.

Extra treats & scritches for the boy, please.

He ate about two days' worth of cat food (his own and Frank's). He still
acts as if he's staaaaaarving. :oP I think it really scared him when he
didn't get any food this morning, and he will need a lot of reassurance
before he will learn to trust the foodbowls to be filled again.

Hehehehe... the vet said the same thing about Quetzie (RB) when he was
growing up. He was a good 20lbs last time he went to the vet, and not an
ounce of fat!
FWIW, Fez and Rufous never ate kitten food, they hated it. And they're
our biggest cats. :)

I'm not sure whether is easier to get over if it's done early, I suspect it
is.  Boyfriend was probably older than a year when I got him done. I brought
him home after a few hours, but fortunately our appointment was for 9 a.m.
so I just pretended to forget to feed him - and Kitty didn't mind waiting a
bit longer for her breakfast.
Boyfie spend ages nurturing his parts in cello position when he came home.
My vet does not stitch the scrotum after a neuter, a lot do.
He was not ill afterwards, his appetite was fine but he was miserable for
several days.  He was clingy and wouldn't go outside except for toilet
duties

I knew how bad he must have felt because he is *never* clingy, quite the
reverse, he's very independent.
This is probably not a typical response to a male neuter, most people report
that their boys are fine in 12-24 hours.  It was about a week before he was
back to his normal self, out on rat patrol etc.

(whisper) He only catches very small rats, he's very scared of the great big
ones with the big brown chisel teefies (dat bite him very hard and urtalot
wen e got a cupple before.
Don't tell Mimi about this (end of whisper))

Caliban had no stitches either. To me, he seemed quite back to normal
the minute I let him out of his carrier here at home. He did take a long
nap in the evening, but then he always naps in the evening so he'll have
the energy to play during the night. :oP

Several times during the night, he came up on the bed and plopped
himself down against my back, and streeeeetched out so he'd cover as
much of my back as he could. I don't remember him doing that before,
usually he lays on my shoulder with his back in my face, or with his
paws kneading my face, when he wants to get close to me.

Now, the morning after, he is out in the enclosure after a hearty
breakfast, play-wrestling with Miranda, and generally being his Caliban
self.

Stinky has this.  I don't know why they bother, he really doesn't look
at all like a "whole" cat, and he sure doesn't care!

Smokey was about 2 when he was neutered (we found him feral) and poor
boy, being feral he's got a food-fetish and, even now at age 5, the
idea of there Being No Food (And Maybe No Food Ever Again) makes him
scream and cry.  It was hell on us letting him scream at the absence of
food bowls for the entire night before we took him to the vet.

Our vet said that upon awaking from surgery he went straight for the
food, and put down as much as the vets were willing to give him.
They'd never seen a cat awake with such an appetite.

Caliban was a braveboy.
