Kitten rescued

This will lift your spirits.
Today, as I left the office to go home, I saw a young couple with a small
cat carrier and a kitten-size live trap.
The woman was sitting on the sidewalk, and the man was on his belly, with
his head and shoulders under some bushes and his legs sticking out across
the sidewalk.
So, of course, I stopped to chat and find out what they were up to, and the
man came out of the bushes.
They told me they had observed a little white kitten for the last few days
and had found a home for it and were trying to catch it.  I noticed that the
man had bare hands and arms.
Hmm, I was wondering if they brought any bandages along.
We talked some more, and they told me of cats they had rescued and taken in
and other stuff that indicated to me that they were, indeed, concerned about
the kitten and wanting to rescue it.
While we talked, a beautiful little fuzzball  about 6 weeks old, white with
black on its ears and nose was visible in the bushes, avoiding the trap and
snacking on the bits of food just outside the entrance.
The man took the can of catfood they were using as bait out of the trap, put
a little bit on the tip of his finger , and again lay down with his head
under the bushes.
The kitten was enticed by the food on the finger and came close enough for
the man to grab it.
I grabbed the hardsided crate and held it on end with the door on top and
told the man to drop the struggling kitten in, which he did.
He was scratched some, but not badly. I had expected a lot more blood, but
was glad to see that all the damage appeared to be on the surface.
He was going to wash the scratches and put on some antibiotic.  I told him
that if it got red or started to swell, see a doctor.
Then we had a little conversation about declawing, and they were very much
against it, so this baby will get to keep it's lovely toe-tips when they
deliver it to its new home.
What a great way to end a workday.

Hey, that's great!  I think you're good luck for kitties to find
homes, Annie.  Keep it up :-)

Hi Britta.

I really like the easy ones where somebody else does all the work and I get
to enjoy the happy ending.

Well, your mere presence seems to be doing the job lately, so there
you go :-)

Wouldn't it be great to really have that gift?  Most of us seem to be
"blessed" with being a magnet for strays. I'd love to be a magnet for
successful rescues.

They sound like they know what they're doing. I  hope they're going to try
to capture and neuter the mother too, who will almost certainly still be
around if the kitten is only six weeks old.

There is no sign of the mother or any other kittens.  We suspect that for
some reason, the baby was dumped.

That's how we came to have Samuel Redcat. When he was a tiny baby, just
barely weaned, he was dumped beside the parking lot of the warehouse where
I was working at the time. He had found himself a hidey-hole under a hedge
and lived there for the few days it took me to trap him.

I just can't imagine that anyone would do such a thing to an adult cat, let
alone a tiny baby.  But they do.

What a wonderful gift to see something like this on your way home.  What a
great way to end the day!  I also enjoyed your story of your friends
adopting cats because they liked yours so much :-)

Thank you.  I was surprised and thrilled about the way that turned out.  We
saw the couple last weekend when they brought the d-pet to an outdoor music
festival.  He is adorable and sweet-tempered.  They said he is very good
with the kittens.
The kittens, though, are typical hoolikittens and a great source of
entertainment for humans and d-pet alike.  They are quite unlike our prissy
middle-aged lady kitties.
