I mentioned this once before, but finally got a picture.
Gypsy, our guest d*ggy for the foreseeable future, has the funniest,
sh*t-eating grin whenever she is in trouble (and with b*tchy little Jessie
around to beat her up, that seems to be most of the time). Here's a picture
of Gypsy grinning at me (I had to make believe I was fussing at her to get
her to do this, but I gave her lots of hugs and pettin's afterwards to make
up for it).

I've never seen a d*g do this before. Has anyone else who is more used to
or owns d-thing type pets seen this?
Hugs,

Shelby does that when I'm chastising her (or speaking firmly at someone
else). She also "talks" back (not barking, but making roo roo sounds)
and that's what I accuse her of (don't you talk back to me, missy!). I
love it when she does it, but can't get a picture, since she's a ham,
and knows she doesn't look so "nice" when she's doing that.
It's absolutely adorable.

One of the cartoon dogs used to do this. Looks like Gypsy has it down to an
art form.

My uncle had a dog and they all thought he was baring his teeth and then
they finally figured out he was smiling! He definitely used it as a smile,
just like a human. She seems like a neat dog.

That is hilarious!!!! It looks so -- so-- je ne sais quoi!
It's quite different from the broad doggy grin they give you as a
greeting. I love that one, too.

She looks "sheepish". No, not like a sheep! As though she's truly sorry
for having done something. Forgive me, please???? Very sweet photos,
thanks!

Yes, I've seen it before. It often conveys slight apprehension about "am I
doing right or not?" It's an effort to ingratiate in case they aren't.
Gypsy needs reassurance when she is right if she is grinning a lot. She
isn't sure what to do.
Give her a cuddle from me.

Oh no, she's not doing it a lot. I had to "fuss" at her to get her to do it
(yes, I felt horrible afterwards so she lots of hugs, pettin's, and a few
treats). But I just had to capture that on film, it's too cute to miss out
on a photo op! ;>

That is just darling. Our dogs had happy grins, too, but not with the nose
squinched like that.

Well, I'm not more used to the d*g things but we do have a year old
blond spitz (think large pom/sm eskimo dog)who grins and, I swear,
laughs. When our new yorkie pup tries to do battle, Loki puts a paw on
her to hold her in place, and grins as she flails away trying to get to
him and give him what for.LOL Like big brother and little sis.
Loki (aptly named!) ajusted quickly to Punkers kitty and they both do
their own thing. Emmie, however, is a little pest! Think of a grubby
little girl who plops herself down on a bench beside a mature,
well-dressed woman who draws aside her skirts so the child won't touch
them, and you have Punkin. But she's also figured out Emmie means her
no harm and is just a ditzy airhead, so sometimes... if there is only
one pool of sunshine on the big chair...she will reluctantly deign to
share it with the furball.

Spitzes and Samoyeds are famous for their smiles.
