My cat had PU surgery almost 2yrs ago.  It cost about 1,000.00 dollars.
However, it was very well worth it.  I praise the vets that performed
the surgery. It is not one that is done often here, so he had to call
in an additional vet for assistance.  This did fix his immediate
problem which was a blockage in the urethra. I currently treat the
struvite crystals by diet.  I feed my cats (all three have to eat the
food now) purina ur.  I was told that if this did not work, I would
have to use an oral medication to treat the crystals. I'm wondering if
anyone has tried any other cat foods for this specific problems with
much success? My cats like it ok, they definitly do not love it. They
do make a canned version I give them mixed with water (keeps them
hydrated and makes sure the culprit ingests enough water to help dilute
the urine and crystals) only as a treat.  Occasionaly we run out and I
panic as to which foods to get from the grocery on a Sat or Sun, due to
the vets office being closed. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

I would never, ever feed a dry food to a cat with urine crystal issues.
Only canned food is acceptable in those cases, IMO. That's how we fixed
Xoxo's problem a few years back. Hasn't had an issue since the original
diagnostic.

I'd suggest switching to a wet-food only diet, preferably of a super
premium brand, like Felidae or Innova.

My Fin had a blockage when he was new to me, and it scared the willies
out of me. Right after that, I started feeding him the NutraMaz brand
of food, because he would only eat dry, and he never had another problem
as long as he lived.  I would swear by NutraMax, and it's a heck of
a lot cheaper than Science Diet (which the vet recommended).
