Pearl goes in tomorrow to get blood drawn AGAIN. She gets so upset. Any
purrs for a calm blood draw and NO bad results highly appreciated.

They are still doing tests and I have an exit interview at 4 pm. :(
She has "a treatable condition" but they are not sure what (which
really meant they just aren't ready to tell me). Well, gee thanks. I"ve
come home to cry and eat and go back to work which I will leave at 4
and put everyone in a bind (well, TOO BAD. You have kids I have a sick
cat). I guess my big hope is that she really CAN feel better, but I
have my doubts. Poor Pearl. She just doesn't get ANY breaks.  She's a
lippy, arrogant and difficult cat  who sometimes purrs if I just LOOK
at her. She now has arthritis, a heart problem and maybe asthma and
maybe something else (I'm guessing some kind of thyroid disorder). The
only good news would be if this whatever is also causing the coughing.
But I have to remind them that started a long time ago. I just hope she
isn't too stressed by being there all day :(  Well, I'll let you all
know what they say tonight.

Poor you, and poor Pearl.  I didn't know they needed to keep a cat
that long to do tests.  Those must be very comprehensive tests.  Plus
you have an exit interview??  Purrs for you both.

The vet was very concerned about spiking glucose levels. She thinks
it's due to the prednisone and so do I, since everytime I give Pearl
one she starts acting "sick" for the next day or two. So, we are going
to try the aerokat. She has never used one and actually, I think she is
glad that I want to try it. She went to fritzthebrave and then called
me. She has phoned in a prescription and I ordered a chamber so we will
start trying as soon as I get that. No pred in the meantime. Her
glucose was around 300 plus her (some other term that I really don't
know how to spell) were a little high which is an indication of
allergies. So, not as bad as I thought (although the thyroid tests
aren't back but I'm pretty sure those are OK - knock on wood).  Poor
tuckered out little girl!! Me too.

Well, that doesn't sound all that bad.  I hope the aerokat will do the
trick.  Many, many purrs for Pearl and for you.

Karen,

When you say the blood glucose was "spiking", do you mean the levels
come back down again?

I hate to say it, but I wonder if she is now diabetic. 300 is pretty
high. Our vet suspects diabetes in anything over 200 in an office visit.

Our cat ended up with steroid-induced diabetes. His bg was 250 at the
vet's, and about 400 in the labwork. I was mad, we were not told of
those risks of steroids and he only had one shot (by a different vet.)
Three weeks after that shot, he had lost 3 lbs and was peeing and
drinking excessively. None of our cats will ever get steroids again,
unless it is life and death.

I hope your cat's bg returns to normal. Will they be rechecking it soon?
Sorry I don't know your cat's story, sounds like both of you have been
through a lot.

Take care,

Rhonda

Hi Karen - I'm glad it wasn't so bad for you and that you finally get to try
the aerokat!  Purrs all around and I know you'll hold her close tonight :-)

Purrs coming over for the both of you. I'm really glad that your vet
wants to try the aerokat. I was always worried about the prednisone,
that's why I agreed to try the other med with Nikki. Lots and lots of
purrs for Pearl's glucose leevls to get back down to where they're
supposed to be and that the aerokat turns out to be effective.
