Thanks to Cinder and Rosie, two kittens and a d-pet have a new home.
While we were waiting for Hurricane Rita to make up its mind which way to
go, we had some friends over for an impromptu pre-evacuation potluck.
As it turned out, we were lucky. Rita took a turn north and we were spared.
Last night I saw one of the couples who had been at our house that evening.
They told me that they were so impressed with Cinder and Rosie that they had
gone to the Humane Society and adopted two kittens.
The couple had always had d-pets, but our two kitties had flirted and
charmed them.
While at the Humane Society, they also brought home a d-pet who tugged at
their hearts.
Then, they confessed that they had talked about volunteering to foster
Cinder and Rosie while we were on our boat journey, but were afraid they
would fall so in love that it would be too hard to give them back. So, they
decided to adopt instead.
They report that the kittens and d-pet are adapting well to each other and
the household. They commented on the energy level of the kittens, but seem
to enjoy it.
To put frosting on the cake, they are totally against having them declawed.
So, thanks to Hurricane Rita, Cinder and Rosie, two people, two cats and a
d-pet have found each other.

I don't remember the rest of the ill wind saying, but I do remember that no
good deed will go unpunished.

It's great to know that three homeless fur kids now have forever homes.
That's the best kind of rescue. Totally without the stress of finding the
animal in need and having to care for and find homes for them yourself.
We saw the new slaves at an outdoor jazz festival last night. They brought
the d-pet, who is a real sweetie. I'd have a hard time resisting him
myself, but I'm pretty much a pushover, anyway.
Of course, the hoolikittens were at home. I wonder what mischief they
thought up last night.

Cinder and Rosie must be especially charming, although we already knew
that. Were they being extra friendly to your guests that evening?

Hi Tak,
Cinder did most of the work. She likes to be admired and flirted shameless
with the man, who apparently was smitten. Somehow she knew just who to
target.
Ironically, the couple's first thought was to offer to foster Cinder and
Rosie while we were traveling. I think they would have been great, too.
However, they concluded that it would be too hard to give them back, so they
adopted instead. Of course, we are thrilled that three homeless pets now
are in loving care of their own home.
The jury is still out on how well Cinder and Rosie will take to living with
us in that rumbling time/travel machine with the vibrating floor if the
nobody steps up to foster them while we are gone. We've had two potential
takers so far. We are not asking anyone to do it, because we think that it
would have to be someone who would volunteer on their own. One couple who
actually offered would also be great fosters, but did not fully think
through the timeline. They also will be taking the same trip in their boat
and plan to leave a few months before we return.
Meanwhile, we are working to get the kitties used to the idea of time
travel, assuming that they may have to leave the planet as they know it. I
think we've had some promising results so far.
Purrs for Betty. We hoping for a miracle.

Apologies to the group. I don't know why my response to Takayuki came
through three times.
