Baggy has just been to TED for his annual injections. Like many cats, Baggy,
does _not_ like travelling by car, so it's fortunate the vet is only 4 miles
away. Also luckily today we were seen as soon as we arrived, so we were away
from home for less than 30 minutes.

Good! Hope everything checked out for Baggy!
My LLL and I are planning a trip for us to meet somewhere "in the middle" in
Arkansas. He asked, "Why don't you just bring Persia with you?" Yeah,
RIGHT. She yowls the entire way to the vet, 5 miles and then back. I can
just picture myself driving (I'm terrified of driving long distances) 80
miles with a yowling cat. Then get to the pet friendly hotel (there are
lots of them, by the way) and have her run out of the room when he goes to
get ice or something. Not to mention her yowling and irritating other
guests if we go out to dinner and leave her in a strange room alone.
This is supposed to be a non-working vacation, not "let's test Jill's (and
Persia's) last nerve"! Much as she hates it, she will be boarded. Only 5
miles of yowling (one way) LOL

I hope you have a great trip. My sister lived in El Dorado, AR from 1981 to
1985. I did quite a lot of long distance driving when I visited her there.
Lots beautiful places in the middle of Arkansas. Talking of which, did the
Toad Suck get together ever take place?

I'm afraid not. I couldn't go due to the demise of our van and the
subsequent expenses, and we were never able to organize it all. I feel
ashamed as I initiated the idea and never followed through on it, even if I
couldn't go myself. It would be fun though to get a good sized group of us
nuts together and just hang out and have fun.

DH and I drove from Virginia to Colorado with Oscar.
There was not a single 5-minute silent interval the entire trip.
"Meow."
"Meowowowow"
"Meow?"
"Meow!"
[Pause. Humans hope she has settled down.]
"Meow?"
"Meow. Meow."
"Myaaaow"
ad nauseum.

LOL! Yep, that's what I would expect. I'd be totally unnerved. I know
Persia wouldn't be *hurtung*, just upset and/or annoyed, but then I'd get
upset for upsetting her, you know what I mean? God help me if I have to
move any great distance. I would have to get some sort of herbal kitty
medication to calm her down for the trip. Peaches, my lovebird, enjoys
being in the car. Her toys swing all by themselves (must seem like a
miracle) and she chirps along with the radio :)

Vino doesn't mind. He meows once or twice right at the beginning but
then is fine for the rest of the trip. He especially likes it if we
let him out of the carrier so he can roam about in the car. He likes
to be able to put his paws up on the window so he can see out. And he
likes to come up front and sit on my lap with his paws on the
dashboard, looking out. He's really good about not going over into
the driver's side too. What a good boy :-)

This reminds me of trips as a kid. We had a cat, Fluffy, and a dog,
Charlie Brown (a beagle) and they came with us for some trips up
north to visit family. I remember Fluffy being loose in the car and
she would always freak out. She'd be on my dad's shoulders when he
was driving (a cat hater) and under his feet. I don't remember
seeing any carriers back then, but we had a home-made kennel for
Charlie. I had his old carrier when I moved because I didn't have
enough carriers, and it was made of wood and roomy. I used it for a
stray shelter until the wood swelled and I had to throw it out when
it got too water-logged.
About taking Fluffy on trips - my mom told me something recently
that I didn't remember. Fluffy got out during a visit to NY and
they couldn't find her when we had to leave. They went up the next
weekend and found her. I would have freaked out if it'd been one of
my cats!

I took phoenix for his yearly jabs today. Unfortunately he had a slightly
raised temp, so he got a dose of anti-inflamatory instead, and we got
another bill of almost £30. Back for his jabs on monday...

Sorry to hear that. :-( Baggy was extra purry when he got home, I'm glad
it's only once a year.

I *love* being just 5 minutes away from TED. None of my kitties
have ever like car rides.

I don't think our gang would survive it if we had to drive more than 1 mile.

Purrs that he has forgotten the trip by now. Our vet is only about 4
miles down the road (same road, no turns) and Shamrock does fine on
the trips. Rhett had to go recently, and the soulful rrrows coming
out of him didn't even sound like him. LOL He sure scared the tech
because his ears were pinned back the entire time, and with his size,
she thought she'd be torn to shreds for sure. He behaved. :) He has
to go back in December for his annual shots. After this round, I'm
hoping he (and Scarlett) won't have to have any more for a while.
They're determining that after the initial shots, they're good for a
while.
