Kitten Dies After Being Abandoned At Animal Shelter
SAN DIEGO -- Officials at the Helen Woodward Animal Center said a sick
kitten that had been illegally abandoned at the shelter had died.

The 8-week-old kitten, after having undergone treatment elsewhere had,
been left at the shelter outside in the rain in a box. The animal was
highly contagious, said shelter officials, and still had a catheter in
its leg and a fresh blue veterinary wrap on its leg. It was suffering
from feline distemper, according to shelter employees, which is often
fatal to the animals infected by it.
"The kitten was very sick and vomiting," said HWAC spokesman John Van
Zante on Wednesday. "Our medical staff is doing everything they can to
save this baby."
A note signed "Cookies and Cream" was left with the kitten, according to
a news release. The note said, "I am very sick, please help me."
A spokesman for the animal center said that the black and white kitten's
owner had to pass by a sign alerting pet owners that it was illegal to
abandon sick animals at the shelter. Workers at the shelter attempted to
treat the animal, but it died late on Wednesday.

Poor baby. Smelly litter box offerings to "cookies and cream" who
abandoned the poor little thing.

(They don't realize that DP found them in a trash pile when they were 3
weeks old.)

There really is nothing like the connection with a puppy or kitten that you
hand raise from a very early age.
When they imprint like that, they are hooked and so are you.

Tell us about it. :) It only took us about a month to realize that our
plan of "raise them to 10 weeks then find them a good home" was going
to end with the "good home" in question being ours. (We might've
realized it sooner had we not moved halfway across the country when
they were 6 weeks old, WITH our other two cats.) It's hard to deny
something that is convinced you are its natural mother.
