Headline of today's Houston Chronicle:  "Houston, We Have a Pennant!"

For the first time in history the Astros are going to World Series!

That is just amazing. I remember when the standard joke
in Houston  bars was "How about them Astros?"

Yep!  But this weekend I have to wear my biking shoes with no socks - it's
"No Sox" weekend in Houston today, tomorrow, and Sunday!  ;>

Guess that whole "no sox" thing didn't turn out too well, eh?

Sorry 'bout your team.

If it is any consolation, DH and I are 100% CUBS fans. Watching the Sox
win it all was pretty much a nightmare.

Oh well...spring training starts in just over 4 months. There's always
next year!

Yeah, I'm with you there. The only thing worse would be if the Cards
were in the WS vs the Sox! (but the 'stros took care of that for us)

98 next-years and counting!

Yeah, I just wish they hadn't lost it so quickly - they could at least have
strung it out for 6 or 7 games and let us hope a little longer!  ;>

The only reason I'm glad the Sox won it in Houston is because they would
hvae been playing here on the weekend...and that would just be begging
for a riot and some looting! Fortunately, our city stayed under control
last night.

Being a cubs fan in the city of the white sox sucks,

Yes, I would have liked to see it stretch out longer.  It would have been
nice if the Astros could have won at least one game.

I hate to admit this, believe me, but I just don't think the Astros were
a match for the Sox. Yeah, the games were close, but NOTHING was going
to stop the Sox.

Ugh.

Heh. I wish you guys had made it to the series. The Cards are the one
team I would have enjoyed seeing the Sox smash!!!! ;-)

rough couple of years for you Cards fans, eh? ;)

of course, the only appropriate response from a Cards fan to a Cubs fan
at this point in time would be to chant: 1908, 1908, 1908

maybe we'll reverse the curse on it's 100th anniversary. :::sigh:::

That's great!  When my team isn't involved, I always root for the underdog.

Me too, Joy. Now we have two underdogs, who do we root for now? Me, I'll
have to root for Houston since they beat Atlanta.

Yes, it is a dilemma, but a nice one.  I think I'll have to root for the
White Sox since they're National League.  But I'll be happy whoever wins.

I am so thankful that the Astros pulled it off last night....I really am
looking forward to going to bed early for two nights before the Series
begins, lol! Game 5 was such a heartbreaker. For those of you who are
unfamiliar with the Playoffs it is a best of 7 game series.  Houston and
St. Louis Cardinals are going into Game 5 with Houston having won 3 and
one more game needed to clinch the National League Pennant - and do it
at home which would have been even sweeter.  In the 9th inning, with 2
outs and the score something like 2 - 1 in favor of the Astros, St.
Louis player hit a two run home run and the the Cardinals won and took
the series back to St. Louis.

This World Series is going to be so much fun to watch because you have
the Houston Astros who have never been to the World Series and the
American League Chicago White Sox who haven't been in something like 50
years.  Both cities are going to suffer Baseball Fever like they've
never seen it before.

Enjoy it, Lori. Be proud of your team whether you've never watched them
play before or are an avid baseball fan.  Put a sticker on your
car..wear team colors...whatever it takes. Support your team and have
fun with it..afterall...Baseball IS a Game..and Games are supposed to be
fun.

Concatulations both Houston and Chicago!
Julie (who isn't an avid baseball fan but *loves* the Playoffs and World
Series)
