It appears Sammy is doing much better than I ever expected. Those purrs
are working again. He's doing so well, as a matter of fact that they
decided to neuter him today and he is currently recovering! He didn't
have any sign of worms but since he had fleas they've treated him for
tapeworms. He did have signs of mucousy diarrhea and she could feel some
hard stools so she (TED) massaged him while he was under to try to move
that along and they'll keep an eye on his litterbox habits to make sure
everything is going well there. I'm very much relieved with this
report. The staff is in love with him and say he's a wonderful cat so
he will be well cared for while we are gone. As Karen mentioned,
hopefully 12 days with TED will prepare him for his life inside. Now if
someone can prepare Hobbes, Selena and Lacey for his life inside <vbg>.
But I'll request those purrs when the time comes.
Thanks everyone!

That's so great!! I bet it is bad worms. If he is so lovable, he will get
lots of attention and that will also help him adjust. EVeryone says that
even numbers of cats is easier than odd. I haven't the room to test that
myself, but most people say it is a much easier adaptation.

I remember when you weren't sure there was room for 3 cats, you just
haven't been tested yet. Seriously though, I think you may be right. I'm
hoping Sam will be someone Hobbes can play with. Selena and Lacey don't
like it when Hobbes pounces on them. Hopefully another male cat will be
more willing to roughhouse with Hobbes.

Yeah. Of course, I did get a bigger apartment. And they do get along better,
but not cuddly. It was so funny the other night Pearl came over to the couch
and wanted dinner. Grant was sitting a little away and got this "bad boy"
look in his eye. He picked up his paw and just reached over and touched her
shoulder lightly. For all the world I could hear him saying in a nyah-nyah
tone "I'm touching youuuuu! Nyah nyah!" I told him not to touch is sister
since she gave him the evil eye back. It was SO funny.

I didn't know that cats did that to each other. I thought they just
did that to humans in order to get our attention, since we're not as
alert as they are. I wonder what Grant was thinking? :)

He was thinking "Karen's sitting right there so if I touch Pearl, Pearl can
be mean to me."

Wonderful news, Julie! We'll start purring to soften up Hobbes, Selena
and Lacey. ;o)

Glad to hear he's doing better than expected, and that the later
message says no disease which would keep him from joining the family.
I want to say again how much I think you're doing a good thing by
taking him in - and shame on his ex-family for just moving off and
leaving him, no to mention just letting him take care of himself while
they were on vacation or whatever. Heck, even before I formally took
in my cats I made sure someone came by and put out food for the strays
who had become used to finding food on my patio. How hard can it be to
ask a neighbor to put out a bowl of food and fresh water!?! Acutally,
I guess it's a good thing they left him behind - they don't deserve
him!
Purrs for his upcoming snip job, and for him to be ready to move
inside when you get back - and of course for the current masters to
accept him without too much hassle when the time comes.

That is good to hear! I'm so glad you got this good news before your
trip, and that he'll be well watched and taken care of while you're
gone.

Good news! It sounds like there's *something* wrong with his stools,
so I hope they can figure out what it is. Maybe he just eats some
things that don't agree with him, and that will stop once you get him
inside. :)

I should read all the messages before I start posting. I just replied
to the earlier one. But i am behind as usual. It is good to know
Sammy's problem has been identified. I wonder why they don't just do
an enema to soften up the hard stools? The gut is tender and can be
painful and/or damaged by real hard ones. An ounce of warm soapy water
would help a lot. Purrs,

I'm glad to read that Sam is doing well, and in another thread is
disease-free. We're sending recovery purrs to him and soothing purrs
in advance to the rest of your furcrew.
