Thank you all for your condolences regarding Willow. It has really helped
to know that you are out there and have been through the same thing with
your beloved pets. I light a candle everyday for her, have pictures out,
and cry when I need to. She touched my family's life in so many ways. We
had always been a d*g family, but when Willow met relatives, everyone was
smitten and appreciates cats so much more. There will never be another
little girl like her.
My husband and I feel the house is so empty without her companionship,
personality, and felineness...so we are adopting another cat from a local
shelter. We decided to call him "Finn MacCool" after a legendary Irish hero
(http://tinyurl.com/bmu5q ). He is a one year old unaltered (not for long)
male that looks as if he has some Bengal in him...he is muscular with
cheeks. At the shelter they are calling him Peter, but that is the name of
my brother, so hence the change.
We went on Tuesday to meet with said boy cat and after he sniffed the room,
he went over to my 15 month old toddler and headbutted him, then licked his
cheek. Alexander giggled and put out a chubby finger to touch his nose.
Finn came over to me headbutted me and wanted some kisses and scratches on
the head and chin. I picked him up and held him like a baby, which he
tolerated very well. At one point, Alexander (who is doing much better with
being "gentle" with animals), grabbed his tail...Finn looked at him, with a
"Huh....a tail attachment." My husband came later and Finn flopped down by
him and slung one big paw over Chris's leg. BTW...many more headbutts and
another kiss for Alexander. Its a great fit and I am really happy to change
a cat's world.
Although my soul has a spot that is empty, I know it will grow with love for
this new guy.
Thanks for listening, allowing me to blabber, and I know you will share my
happiness at the new guy on the block, and share my heartache for the
passing of Willow. I will include a link to Finn MacCool's picture at the
shelter.

I hope it works.

Wonderful, M Elizabeth! Helping a cat that needs you will help you heal.
He is beautiful! I love tabbies. It is particularly terrific of you to adopt
an
older cat--meaning a young adult instead of a kitten--since they are often
harder to place. I for one look forward to hearing all about Finn in the
future!!
You and your husband are special people.

Oh I think that is wonderful. Willow would not want you to be catless I am
certain. I look forward to lots of stories about Finn (LOVE that name.)

I'm sure it will work, and good for you for giving the little fellow a home!
The most loving tribute you can give a departed, beloved "master" is to care
for another and give him a good long life with you.

Oh, he is gorgeous/adorable!! I luuuuuuuurv tabbies! He sounds like a
wonderful kitty, and will be a great pal for Alexander, and all of
you. There's no anti-depressant like a new kitty in the house!

He's gorgeous. And while I'd never deliberately let a Tom cat get old
enough unaltered, I do love the fat cheeks (jowls) toms develop.
Sounds like he will be a real love.

I'm so glad that Finn MacCool is joining your family. I think Willow would
be proud of all of you.

Thank you all! I can't wait to pick him up tomorrow. He already has an
appointment scheduled for the vet and then we will make a time for his
neutering. I am hoping he doesn't lose those cheeks.
Having to prepare for Finn is bringing closure. I miss my little girl so
much, but I know that I did the right thing and that is giving me peace.
She was so, so sick and just wasn't going to get better...:( I know Finn
will never replace Willow, and that is one reason why I picked a male cat
and one with different coloring. I didn't want a female or one with a white
face or a calico, or a tortie, because I didn't want the reminders. So a
big burly male will be just the thing.
We have always adopted older animals in my family, because they seem to have
the hardest times finding homes.
So there we have it. My candle is lit still and I celebrate Willow's life
and her impact on me.

I'm so glad you are rejoining RPCA, it's good to have you back.
Congratulations on your new addition, we're happy you found him.
It's wonderful of you to give him a good home. I know the feeling
that Finn is not a replacement for Willow - there is no such thing -
but he will give you much happiness. My little cat, Custard, died at
age 19. She was the best kitty ever born, the best in the whole
universe, and loved dearly. I could never "replace" her and really
wanted no more cats to even *try* to love. But here is Hobo, a big,
17-pound, polydactyl boy, who chose us, we didn't choose *him*. He's
taught us we *can* love again, as he is absolutely adored in his own
right.
Anyway, kudos to you and best wishes for a long and wonderful life
with Finn. Give him a scritch or two for me.

Congratulations to the whole family! Good for you for giving a needy
cat a happy new home. Finn appears to know what side his bread is
buttered on, as he has been so affectionate with his new hoomins. I
think Willow would approve, and I'm sure she would not want you to
grieve for her indefinitely. Some mourning is fitting and just, though,
as she was your beloved pet, and her passing is still very new. But
having someone new to learn to love is a very good way to heal a
cat-shaped empty place in the heart. =o)

I never thought I would love a pet again after my Pollyanna (1969-1983) I
grieved so much, but I did, eventually, love again although it seemed
impossible at the time.

Welcome back, and welcome Finn (cool name, pun intended)
He appears to be perfect for you and we wish you joy in your
lives together.
As others are saying, he won't replace dear Willow but will really
help the healing process, as Claudius has done for me after the
shock loss of Pericles.

That can't-be-without-a-cat feeling is a tribute to Willow.
Finn is lucky that Willow conditioned the two of you so well.

I am so glad that you decided to stay! And to give a home to another cat
in need of a onetruehome. And what a gorgeous fella he is! There will
always be that spot that misses Willow, but I'm sure Finn will help you

oooh, he is sooo beautiful; a real character, he looks very intelligent, a
real boy cat though!!! Lovely, I'm so glad you've found a new friend...after
the kitties i was trying to save died, i was heartbroken. jas was already
with us but i could barely look at her at first because i'd put all my
effort and love into the babies, then they died. but she helped me heal
because she was so loving and such a lady...hope he helps you heal too, he
sounds like just what you need!!
