I can't get over the differences in personalities among the owners.  Qui Gun
Kit is totally fearless.  He has never known a day of hunger, other than
when visiting TED for his knacker removal.  He is so totally confident, he
will snuggle up to Tanada when she's awake.  He steals food from the big
cats, and thinks that QC will never put her paw on his little head and push
it down.

Sonya, like the rest of the rescues, has her own little quirks.  She is shy,
a little timid, and is only now learning that it is ok to sleep on the bed
with the other cats.  The other cats also have their own bugaboos, and all
are rescues.

I mentioned this to Mandy's boyfriend, Jim, who said that Honor, his cat, is
also fearless.  Honor was adopted out of our TED's office.  Thus she was not
a rescue.

Has anyone else noticed this with their kitties?

Some scientists studying cats found  that cats are almost as diverse
in their personalities as humans.   This wasn't true of other higher
mammals, such as dogs, dolphins, even some primates.  This was in the
NY Times Science section about ten years ago, so I can't remember
details.
One thing I do remember, however, is that  the cats  they studied
broke down into two broad groups-- constitutionally wary, or shy cats,
and constitutionally friendly, fearless cats.  Then within those two
broad groups, the cats seemed to break down into almost infinite
shadings.

I once came across this funny web site in which the guy broke down cat
personalities into (IIRC):
"Bitch Queen"
"Wild Man"
"Airhead"
"Cuddle Bug"
"Fetchy Monster"
"Green-Eyed Monster"
"Lover"
"Pest"
"Princess"
"Social Butterfly"
"Wimp"
"Worrywart"

I thought that was pretty good. ;)

Absolutely.  Jake considers me his mommy and would probably dry up and die
if he lost me and Charlie.  But he always does exactly as he darn well
pleases.  And sleeps between our pillows.

Molly, the former feral, likes us and considers this her home.  But none of
the feral cats we've had develop the same personal connection to us the ones
we got as bitties do.

They tend to be skittish but with an attitude "I've taken care of myself
before and I can do it again if I have to edge".  Always makes me sad that
they ever had to.    Molly will sleep on the bed, but never until she thinks
we are asleep, and she takes off as soon as she knows we are awake.  She
knows I'm the filler of the food bowl, so I think it reassures her to know
where I am at night.  Especially if she can see the bottom of the bowl.

Oh my yes. Both in how they interact with other masters
and with hoomins.

Bandit is shy and quiet with "other" cats, extremely
pally once he gets to know them. but quietly
assertive (never aggressive) with his 2 housemates.
He steers clear of female hoomins until he gets to
trust them, which takes years rather than months.
With male hoomins he's OK as long as they let
him approach them and they don't make any sudden
movements or noises.

Snowball's wary of all hoomins for a short while,
again shying away at any sudden noise, but quite
bold with other cats including his housemates.

Claudius is just brash, bold and assertive, even
aggressive, with everybody and everything!

AAMOI, Raki the D-Pet is most like Bandit in
his ways.

My Fin (RB) picked me up in a parking lot when he was a teenager. I
think he was a tossed kitty, so he knew people and litter boxes, but
he had been in the Out for awhile.  For the rest of his life, he never
even tried to get back out there.  He knew what was there and wanted
nothing to do with it!  He hid whenever anyone came around, but later
on became social with people he knew, like my friends who came over
a lot.

Rita, on the other hand...I don't know her history.  She'd spent enough
time in a shelter to be transferred to the SPCA, where I got her.  She
LOVES people, all people, but especially guys.  She'll let little
children pet her, but she'll jump right up on the nearest guy, even the
guy installing my cable.  She just LOVES LOVES LOVES people, but she
HATES other cats with an equal fervor.  This is HER place and
nobody else is allowed to be here. She will hunt them down and attack
if they even try to stick a nose into her space.

I wonder if she even knows that she's a cat.

Vino has been a spoiled and pampered housecat all his life and he's
pretty fearless.  And very adaptable.

That pretty much sums up my crew, as well. LB used to have all kinds
of fears. For the longest time she was afraid to get on the furniture
unless I was already there and calling her. She absolutely refused to
get on the kitchen table or counters, though the bathroom counter was
considered safe. And, as I mentioned a few times before, she ran and
hid if a fly swatter was so much as hanging on a nail on the wall.
Most of these fears have disappeared over the 4-5 years she's been
with me. Spotty still isn't sure about being picked up, and will run
if you reach down to pet her. You pretty much have to reach down and
approach her from the side, not from above. Sammy, like your QCK,
doesn't know the meaning of hunger or being outside in the weather. I
wouldn't go so far as to say she's fearless, though, since she hides
when someone comes into the apartment, and is terrified of
thunderstorms.
