My niece visited me today, and she brought her camera along. Caliban put
on a real show for the camera. Unfortunately, all her pics of Miranda
came out blurry, so she says. But here's Caliban:

She really brought out his beautiful eyes.

She's really a good photographer - and of course, she had a very handsome
model!

Those are great. He is going to be just like Amigo! Amigo was a tabby too,
although he had brown down his nose and though it was pink it was outlined
in black. But whenever he got playful his ears tipped forward, his nose got
deep deep pink and his eyes went totally round. I called them cartoony eyes.
What a handsome kid he is becoming.

I love the first picture in the series.  Your niece is a really
talented photographer.  Of course, she had a a very handsome model to
work with which helped.

Excellent pics.

How do you keep him so clean? My cats are very dirty,
and washing them is futile, as rolling in the dust is
one of their favorite activities.

Bet you can guess and get it right if you try.

It's the same way Marina keeps her cats from getting
infectious diseases from other animals, hit by cars,
maimed or killed by dogs or other cats, and poisoned,
beaten to death, or set on fire by those who hate cats.

She can also be sure her cat will never be picked up by
someone who likes to torture animals, or by someone
who sells them to scientists for vivisection.

The best thing is, anyone can do it.

OMG, the sky's gonna fall!

I guess in your view denying cats their pleasures (chasing mice or
chipmunks, running, climbing trees, even 'fighting' with neighborhood
cats, etc) is not imporant?

Our cats go out.  I'd really be happier if they didn't.  It isn't good for
my nerves.  But as I said our cats.  They belong to DH too and he wants to
allow them out.  More important to him than keeping them in might be to me.

Still, it would be hard to argue if I were so inclined.  They have such a
wonderful time.  We live in a relatively safe neighborhood.  The chase moths
and dust motes.  Spent eternities crouched over gopher holes.  Play with
real live warm furry mice.  Stalk grasshoppers, birds, and each other.
Sprawl in the sunny spots on cool days.  Sleep in damp shade when its hot.
And just look so tired and pleased with themselves at the end of the day.

Of course it means they are keeping themselves busy and don't have so much
time or inclination to interact with us.  I miss that.  I'm actually looking
forward to cool, rainy weather so I can get some time with them again.

I was just answering your question. They are clean because they
are not allowed to roam, except when Marina takes them to the island.

A.  You weren't JUST answering the question.  There was a considerable
editorial.

B.  You are wrong.  My cats are spotless and they play in piles of dirt all
day long.

I appreciate your opinion. It is of course as valid as my own.

The fact that your cats play in dirt does not make me wrong that Marina's
cats are clean because they are kept indoors unless she takes them on
vacation, or they are safe in an enclosure far from filth to roll in.

Make nice nice, now Jo. That's what the group is all about, right?

My cats all keep themselves very clean. Even when we're out on the
island in the summer, where they can roam free, they stay immaculate.

Isn't she? I wish she would put it to some more use. Not to say that
taking lots of cat pics isn't good, of course.

She could certainly make a living as a pet photographer.  Although I'm
guessing she is doing something more interesting or useful with her time.

It looked as though she was really enjoying the difference between Miranda
and her own cats stylish look, and Caliban who is all young boycat.

Would Frank pose for her?

We tried to entice him to go outside in the enclosure, where there was
so much better light, but he was feeling comfy inside on the windowsill,
so not this time. She has taken some nice pictures of him in the past,
though.

He's a beautiful kitty, and your niece made use of a great
opportunity, with the natural light and being able to photograph him
from underneath.

Thank you for the pictures Marina - he's beautiful and spotty and stripey.
He looks like he's going to be a big boy when he grows into his legs.

It's a Canon EOS 10D (I think this is the one she is currently using, at
least according to her cats' homepage
