Since all three cats came to us as ferals,we have no idea when their
birthdays are - especially Buster, who was pretty scroungy-looking
when he first started to live here.
At best guess, Dulce Mae is about 4 or 5 years old, Little Feet is
about 8 years old, and Buster is 6 or 7 years old. I'm mostly sure
about Little Feet, because he looked about a year old when he came in
and cadged my peas, and he has been with us for 7 years now.
So we decided to have a mass birthday party, since October is a good
month for cats (grin).
Last week, I was opening a can of chili, and Little Feet (who has
seldom had canned) jumped on the counter to watch closely. So I asked
him if he's like a can of Fancy Feast, and told him I would get him
some next time I went to the store.
I brought home three cans for the big party, dug up saucers, and
started opening them. Little Feet was on the counter, watching
closely, so he was happy to be getting the first serving.
Well, Dulce Mae, before being abandoned, must have had canned on a
regular basis, because she came rocketing in from the living room at
the first sound of the pull tab bending. She came to a sliding stop
next to Little Feet's plate, and forced her way in between him and the
(still empty) plate.
I filled the plate, put Dulce Mae on the floor, and gave Little Feet
the plate, while opening another cam and placing it on the floor.
Buster was outside and didn't come in that night, so he had to wait
until the next day to get his.
When he came in, he was ready to head to the crunchy bowls, but I
picked him up, opened a can for him, and set him and the plate down on
the desk in the utility area. He loved it.
Dulce Mae and Little Feet watched covetously from a shelf above the
desk, while he licked his plate clean.
A happy birthday was had by all.
Hugs and Purrs,
Mark

Glad they enjoyed their birthday treat! I wish I could still give Persia
her Saturday treat of Fancy Feast. She loved almost all the varieties.
