Dozens Of Horses Killed As Trailer Overturns
Witnesses Describe Horror Of Seeing Mutilated Animals
POSTED: 11:34 am EST September 16, 2004
UPDATED: 11:57 am EST September 16, 2004
DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. -- A traffic crash in Dearborn County killed about 25
horses Wednesday.
It happened on Indiana State Route 1 when a truck carrying a trailer with 60
horses overturned, Cincinnati station WLWT-TV reported.
Witnesses were horrified by the sight of the horse carcasses spread across
the highway.
"I looked out window ... and seen horses flying everywhere: up on the
highway, rolling out of the trailer, flying over the fence, falling over
dead. It was terrible," a witness said.
Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle and the trailer flipped
on its side, throwing the horses out.
The horses were being transported from Minnesota to Kentucky.
Police were investigating to see if speed was a factor in the crash.
Three people who were in the truck were treated for minor injuries at the
scene, WLWT reported.
Police closed State Route 1, south of Interstate 74, for several hours to
clean up the accident.
The owner of the horses was identified as Jodi Ramey of Flemingsburg, Ky.
She had purchased the horses in Minnesota and was transporting them to her
farm in Kentucky to be resold as riding horses

I just watche the video
http://www.wcpo.com/
It is so enormously sad. ENormously sad. I just cried. The nice thing is at
least the people where it happened let the survivors stay on their property
and even sat with those to weak to get up, petting and soothing them. Some
of them could then eventually stand. It's just a tragedy.

Yes, this is a horrific tragedy. I am glad I wasn't there to witness it. The
responsible parties should be jailed.

Amen; especially if speed or chemical influence factored in.
Blessed be,

Oh, how sad. =o( Like most of the girls I know, I went through an acute
horse loving phase in my teens, and I still do love them, although I've
outgrown the part about wanting one of my own. They are beautiful animals,
and I hate to hear of them being killed or suffering in any way. If the
owner was not the one responsible for the accident, then I feel sorry for
her, too. On top of the sadness of losing all those horses, she must be out
several thousand dollars because of this accident.
