Literally.  At 3:45PM Central Time the power went out to the entire
neighborhood.  (Huge sigh.)  I called the electric company automated
reporting system and hear there is a "fuse outage"; a crew has been
dispatched.  Meanwhile, it got up to 90F today.  In a couple of hours the
apartment was feeling like an oven.  There was no breeze outside so opening
the windows would be futile.  I lit an oil lamp and set it on the table at
the end of the sofa so I could read.

Persia, being the snuggly girl she is, absolutely *has* to be right next to
me or on top of me.  She feels like she's 110F (I know she's not) and I was
already hot.  I got so hot I started to get chills; what an awful feeling.
I wasn't about to yell at Persia or make her get down because I love the way
she wants to be right there with me; it's just not usually in such heat.  I
was steadily shedding clothing as the hours wore on.

Electric was finally restored around 7:30PM.  But in the meantime, the UPS
guy knocked on my door.  Thankfully I hadn't shed *all* my clothing!  As it
was, I felt very "Gone with the Wind"-ish answering the door with a large
oil lamp in my hand.  LOL  The driver hadn't noticed there wasn't a single
light on anywhere in the neighborhood.

We sometimes get power cuts here but not often and use candles for light.
Knocking off the air-conditioning is something we don't have to worry about!
It's never hot enough to need to have it installed.
Very occasionally in the height of summer the temps might be 90F, for one or
two days.
It's quite nippy here, I have the fires on in both downstairs rooms this
evening, it's down to about 4C.
One fire is mains gas, and the other is bottled gas.  I also have a
woodburner so we will never be without heat.
Kitty is in, sprawled in front of the gas fire like she is unconscious ;-)
Boyfie is out, allegedly on rat patrol, but more likely in search of
roosting birds, bad lad.
Yesterday when I came home from work, there was a dead wren on my kitchen
rug for a present.  This morning I trod on something soft on the rug, a
mousie.  I must get myself a lighter coloured kitchen rug.  Navy is no good
for seeing presents on with my eyesight.
