How is our favourite Finn today?

Not so great. He doesn't eat much, and I'm terrified to lift him,
because he is just skin and bones and he's so light, lighter than the
kittens. But I have to give him his meds while trying to be gentle with
him. It's a bit of a struggle every time. I talked to the vet today, and
she said I can let him eat anything, as long as he gets something into
his tummy. So I'm trying out different foods. This morning, he ate some
of the kidney food, a few pieces of kibble, and some minced meat.

Then again, when I got home from work, he seemed bright and happy, and
came to meet me at the door. He's been outside in the enclosure and
enjoyed the incredibly warm weather for this time of year. I don't know,
I'm on a rollercoaster between despair and hope.

Francis refused to eat the special kidney food, but he (and the others) will
eat 'normal' senior cat food. At least this is a bit lower in protein than
'normal' adult cat food, so I compromise with that. The way I figured it
with Francis was that the vet had given him a death sentence, so Francis may
as well at least enjoy whatever time he has left. One thing Waffles will
enjoy if she's off colour is if I poach a chicken breast and then mince that
up with some plain boiled rice. Is this worth trying with our special boy?

That's understandable. I don't envy you - and poor Frank must be feeling up
and down too. Give him some gentle smurgles from me.

Since one of the goals is just to get him to eat, I wonder if he would go
for kitten food? It might not be the best for his kidneys, but it is high
in calories (important for an older gentleman who isn't eating much), and
probably tastes pretty yummy.

Totally understand that. More purrs for Frank to keep his bounce up. I hope
you find something he likes to eat soon.

Oh Marina - we're still sending lots of hugs and purrs for Frank to
stabilize again and for you on your rollercoaster.  He is sure lucky to be
out in the sun enjoying the day and to be loved and cared for so well.

I'll agree with what others have said and say let Frank eat whatever he
wants. Basho is supposed to eat a special diet, but he refuses to eat
it, so he eats what the rest of the cats eat. He's stabilized around 8.5
lbs, so I'm happy.

Purrz from me and Smokey for Frank.
