Hi guys,
Could I ask for purrs for Bob?
Yesterday we had to take Bob Marley (ferrett) to the emergency vet. He
had lots of blood in his urine.  It turned out to be a bladder
infection. The vet gave him amoxicillin for the infection. My little
baby is just miserable and everytime he wets he hollars. I feel so bad
for him.

Oof.  Having had UTIs myself, I sympathize.  I hope Bob feels better
soon.

For human UTIs, they are able to give you medicine that makes it hurt
less -- although iirc it did turn my urine bright, koolaid orange.  I
wonder if they could do anything like that for Bob's bladder
infection?

I did not think of that Monique. Thanks for the suggestion. I will call
and find out. I'll tell you trying to get him to drink water is like
pulling teeth. I did buy him a fountain so hopefully that will help
some if I can get Harvey to stop washing his paws with it.

I think the stuff they gave me was technically a muscle relaxer.

Those are awesome! How about giving him some cranberry juice? I hear
it's good for URI issues.

UTI.  Yes, I do think that cranberry juice helps with that, but it's
intended to prevent them by cleaning out the bacteria.  I don't think
it will help with the pain while he recovers from his current one.

My ferrets seemed to like to drink from a gravity feed bottle hung on their
cage, the sort that you get for rabbits and guinea pigs where they lick
drops off the end of a metal tube.
The problem is probably that you are feeding him dry kibble and he isn't
getting enough moisture.  It would help if you could feed him meat a couple
of times a week or more.  Roadkill birds are good (throw them in complete
with feathers) or dead day old chicks that can be bought frozen to feed
snakes on.

Sending oodles of purrs for little Bob's bladder to mend soonest! Hint: Uva
Ursi (tea or extract) is great for this.

Any idea of how much you would use for a ferret that weighs 2lbs?

As much as you can get into him. You can't OD on it. It does usually bring
immediate relief.

Absolutely! I haven't had a UTI in decades, but the last time I did have
one, this fixed it within a day.

Shouldn't that be a human can't OD on it? There's a big difference in
size between a person, and a ferret.

Poor thing :-(
Dooks from my ferrets and purrs from the cats for him.

Sounds terrible! :(  Purrs for Bob Marley the ferrett. I love
ferretts but have never had the pleasure of being one's slave.

A thought just occurred -- don't know if there is an animal equivalent of
this but there is a human medication that helps greatly with relieving the
pain while you're waiting for the antibiotic to take hold -- I just looked
it up it is called pyridium, it's an analgesic.  I remember it vividly
because I had to use it after getting a bladder infection following giving
birth -- it turns your pee bright orange.  Don't know but it might be worth
asking your vet.

Thanks for all of the purrs for Bob guys. I think he feels a bit better
today. He still whines some when he wets but he is going all at one
time now instead of dribbling.
To answer Tweeds post about giving him some road kill, I tried to give
him so fresh chicken when our neighbor was doing their slaughter (sorry
Tweed, I don't know what else to call it) but he would not eat it. The
only think he will eat is O/E dry food.  I wish he would eat the meat
because I know he needs more water.
He is drinking out of the fountain some but it seems that him and
Harvey would rather play in it.

Purring for Bob.

I don't know if I would feed him roadkill birds (since I hear some
birds have mites and stuff in their feathers--I have to buy craft
feathers since I do not have the supplies to properly clean feathers
found in the wild).  The chicks for snakes sounds like a good idea
though.  Maybe he would like those.

Poor baby! Many purrs on their way for Bob Marley (that was a sentence I
would never have thought I'd write ;).
