Karen AKA Kajikit - 03 Oct 2005 17:34 GMT The pictures people have been sharing are so cute and sweet and cuddly and I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!! I really really want another cat, but John says we can't afford it. :( I need to hear all the BAD things about having kittens to help cure me... (of course, another thing I want is a baby but I can't have that either... you'd think John would think a kitten was a reasonable compromise :P )

Besides, you deserve a kitten!

I had to change in my bathroom for a year because I had no window coverings.
And when I got her, she had a bacterial infection, and she pooped behind some furniture and it took me forever to find the spot, and it never really got un-smellified to my satisfaction.
And she liked to climb up on my desk and hang out in the dark space behind the keyboard, and would attack me whenever I tried to use the computer.
She would bat stuff off of any surface she could find just to enrage me ...
Then again, she was adorable ... still is ...

KittyLady - 03 Oct 2005 18:26 GMT Well Karen, Kittens are bad because........................................... hum can't seem to think of anything bad about a kitten. Kittens are good because they purr, have milk breath, want all of your attention, run, play, have the zoomies, cute kitten fur, I could keep going but you did say you wanted bad things about kittens. Ernie is the *ONLY* cat we've had to do this, and I watched him once - he not only uses his claws to shred it - but he bites & rips at it with his teeth, too!
He didn't start doing this until he was 6 months or so old. He's a weird kitty. He was chasing Max the D-pet the other day - well, ok, the leash that was attached to Max (I had been getting ready to take Max out for a walk thwn the phone rang, so I just dropped the leash, and Max was running around the house dragging the leash.... and Ernie was 'stalking' the leash), but still it was a riot to watch (News at 11: Cat Chases Dog).

Oh my! Those photos are gorgeous catnipped... and I still want a kitten! (btw, the girls already destroyed the blinds in both bedrooms, so a kitten can't do any more damage to them... I'd love to get vertical blinds because they're more catproof but they're expensive. :( ) The biggest deterrant mentioned so far is fleas. Ugh!

I can't have curtains, Miranda rips them all down. The kittens like to dig the soil out of the potted plants. They chew o the plants themselves. They try to sneak inside the fridge when i open it. Miranda yowls in the middle of the night to be let out into the enclosure. Both kittens get the zoomies and wrestlemania in the middle of the night. Ah, who am I kidding. I love every minute of it.

Now that it's chilly at night, I'm suddenly popular, again. Amazing how three cats can FILL a double bed. And Nina gets wrestlemania in the middle of the night too. Or she and Francesca get serious cases of the Zoomies and chase each other all over the apartment. Poor Pan, he's trying to have a nice, quiet night in bed beside his Meowmie, but these overgrown kittens keep galloping over us both. And Nina easily outweighs him, now. Fortunately, she hasn't yet realized this, and a few baps on the nose from Unka Pan can usually settle her down again. Today, he even gave Francesca a few remedial bops. You don't need might as a Tribal Elder, you just need a commanding presence to instill awe in the young. =o)

I know how to deal with them, and I'm teaching the brat (Caliban) how to deal with them, too! Meowmie will be safe from TP greeblings forever. He might look shtupid, but he's a fast learner.

Susan M - 03 Oct 2005 23:58 GMT > I need to hear all the BAD things about > having kittens to help cure me... > -- One word - Otis. Multiple wakings for two years, one early waking still at the age of nine. Destroyed all the curtains (we have shutters now), destroyed all the furniture (we have leather now - wrecked also), hunted greeblings all night and landed on our heads, destroyed my shoes, and yowled constantly .... Chester was never any problem though so I guess they're not all like that. Just don't get one with a pointy head - those Siamese are pretty stubborn :-) Seriously, I read something about cats head shape and their personality from the SPCA newsletter. The wedge-shaped ones were more high strung. Chester's kind - sort of stubby - are known to be more placid.

The bad thing about kittens is.. erm. They climb your drapes. And you too and that hurts. They rush about at the speed of light and that tires you out. They might have FLEAS and WORMS when you get them. Silver & Scouty might hate having a kitten around. Is that enough? OK, if not - they grow up and need expensive health care sometimes.
They do not cost much to keep in food, but oh, the bill from TED when they get ill <swoon> and if they happened to get ill all at once from something contagious you might just as well pay your monthly wages check straight into TED's bank account.

Shiral - 04 Oct 2005 02:39 GMT Kittens are reckless in their pursuit of greeblings. If you get one with a paper fetish, your TP will never be the same again. They turn your feet into bedmice with painful consequences in the middle of the night. They have cute, round little eyes, and faces only a heart of steel could resist. They have adorable little ears and whiskers. You'll never be able to fold laundry without help, again. You'll never be able to put clean sheets on a bed without help, again. They inadvertently scratch you. Their little tails are like fuzzy carrots. Ummmm... you'll never have to get Cat Orthodontia. YOu'll never have to send a kitten to college. Silver and Scout might get inferiority complexes, wondering why "They weren't enough cat for you."
Okay, I did my best. But it's HARD to come up with bad things about itty bitty baby cats... awwwww......

Kittens are just balls of fuzz and fluff with big eyes and often ears and paws they have yet to grow into. Kittens don't always use the litterbox. You have to pay for vaccines and speutering. You have to worry about torn up blinds/shades/furniture/shower curtains. You *know* you will invest in new cat furniture and cat beds but the kitten will still prefer that empty box. You have to spend all that money on the cute toys for the kitten, because of course the kitten won't have any interest in the discarded toys of its elder housemates. Kittens will torture your existing cats, turning them into crabby old cats. Your cats aren't old! But the kitten will turn them into crabby old cats. Kittens require special food which, I firmly believe after reading about some of the hoolikittens here, wires them up tight as a spring until they go off like an alarm clock, making them romp all night long, preventing any sleep.
If these aren't reasons enough, then perhaps you need a kitten to teach you a lesson! :)

Was that an Ogden Nash poem or the infamous Anonymous? I can't remember.
Kittens are adorable, but they grow up. Then they're no longer adorable, but amazingly wonderful. Okay, they can be adorable as adults too, I admit that.
