There have been suicide bombings in Bali again. Fortunately only 24 people
killed. Restaurants were blown up in 2 tourist areas, 3 years ago 200
people were killed when nightclubs were bombed.
Bali is a popular holiday spot for Australians, at least 2 Aussies are
dead, in the first attack 3 years ago 80 Aussies died. Bali relies on the
tourist trade, it was just picking up after 2002 when this happened. The
innocent local people will be ruined by this attack, they are not Islamic,
but Hindu. the original culprits were Islamic, some of them caught and
tried.

It's very sad, and I will never understand people who perpetrate such
a thing. My condolences to the families and friends of those lost.

The saddest thing is the impact it has on the Balinese. We have a lot of
affection for them, which is why Aussies keep going back. Because they rely
on aussie tourist dollars to keep their economy growing- we feel as though
we are abandoning them if we stop going. The asd thing is that the
terrorists, although acting on religious fervour, aren't just disrespectful
of humanity, but disrespectful to their own people who lose their lives and
jobs because of their actions. they think they are doing it for the good of
their country, but actually they are not.

Duh. The Megawati government coddles Islamic terrorists.
The first set of Bali bombers are national heros in Indonesia.
The 'mastermind' got only a jail sentence, and you can be
sure he'll be set free soon.
What's hard to understand is what are Western tourists doing
in that Islamic hellhole.

Unfortunately the Indonesian ruling class (ie. politicians, businessmen etc)
Seem to have a tendancy for magalomania- Australia is still having
diplomatic discussions with them about them taking over several other ethnic
minorities in their region and trying to wipe them out (ie. east timor) they
also have a nation of people under their control who look suspiciously like
papuan new guineans. The corrupt dictatorship has been going on for the last
few generations of political leaders, and doesn't look like changing. Bali
people are mostly Hindi, and are very friendly and welcoming to foreigners-
something like 75% of them depend on the tourists for their income. The
terrorists weren't just aiming for tourists, but for the hindi people. they
have a festival around this time celebrating the triumph of good over evil.
Unfortunately as Indonesia has many muslim fundamentalists in power, it is a
haven for terrorists who have no regard for the population of indonesia,
except as a means to their end; ie. mass conversion or death. Death seems to
be the preferred option. Similar to the Crusades. Guess it's our turn now.

I know, this is so terrible. Dennis and I spent 3 weeks in Bali in
2000, before all the bombings. We are so sad for all those poor
people, they are totally dependent on the tourist trade and are still
dirt poor. This will be devastating for them :-(
