Caught a pic of Bootsie, the anti-gravity bird-stalker and wanted to
share it. (Disclaimer: No birds were harmed either before or after the
photo was taken. No birds have ever actually been harmed by Boots. She
tries though)

Awww, she reminds me so much of Nikki. In fact, I seem to be at some
point in the mourning process where everything reminds me of Nikki.
<sigh> Tell me it gets better.

If I may intrude: it _does_ get better, but only very slowly, I'm
afraid.
It was only the other day that I noticed for the first time that my
initial thought on waking wasn't about Pericles, gone nearly 8 months.

I think one just has to take as much comfort as possible from the
youngsters to help.

I does get better. Sort of.

It has been almost two years since Presto left us, and I sometimes
still cry for the loss.

But the joy of all my memories, and the happiness of having Little
Feet, Dulce Mae and Buster helps.

You won't forget.  Certain things will always remind you.  But you will get
to where you smile when you remember.

Do you dream about her?  I always feel like those kind of dreams are a kind
of a special gift.  After the part where you wake up sad cause it was only a
dream.

I don't remember dreaming about Nikki at all since she died. When my dad
died, I had some very nice and comforting dreams about him. I still
rmemember them (he died in 1988).

It does. It truly does. I think you are right about on schedule.

Fantastic shot! What an agile girl she is. And your tree looks somehow
familiar - could I have seen it in a movie not so long ago?

Hilarious!  She comes down the tree just like Duffy starting down the cat
tree.  I'm intrigued by the "face" on the tree, though.  Does it look as
face-like in "real" life as in the photo?

Well, yeah, it really does. I've tried to get English Ivy to grow up
and make a beard. It's just 2 eyes, nose & mouth made out of plaster or
something that you nail to the tree. There was a wicked one, too, but I
liked the goofy one better.

There is a tree in Centennial Park, in Nashville, Tennessee, that has
three bumps and a curved scar that make a sort of lopsided face.  The
scar appears to be from natural causes, not someone's having carved it
into the tree.

One of the doors in my church has a pattern in the wood grain that
looks like a devil's face, given that the "smile" is more of a leer.

There is a human tendency to see faces in anything that even slightly
resembles a face, such as American-style electric outlets (see a
slightly-touched-up example at
http://www.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_pages/0015-0503-1514-1234.html).

Oh, English ivy! We've worked so hard to get rid of it around here. It
will kill the trees eventually.

No joke? I thought if you kept it trimmed it would be okay. Somebody
told me it wasn't parasitic, like mistletoe, it just clung to the tree.
But I'm not an expert for sure.
But then it wouldn't be a crime to kill the tree either. It's one of
those damned Tree of Heavens. Talk about invasive. It's even illegal to
plant them in some urban areas.

I think the ivy sticks its roots under the bark. Somewhere else I read
it covers the bark eventually from all sunlight. I know our neighbors
lost a plum tree to it, and ending up hiring teenage boys to chop all
the ivy out of their woods.

Probably a nursery would know if keeping it trimmed will be okay with
the tree.

Love that tree-face, by the way.

I was told long ago that you didn't have to rake leaves from Tree of
Heaven......the leaves would dry and disintegrate.  Is this true?    MLB

That's one of the things I noticed in that pic too! Cool looking,
actually. Almost like it's the knots making parts of it. I like it!

OMG!!! How does she do that!!! That could be a companion piece to the
one of Marina's Kaspar climbing down that cliff.

Now *that* is an amazing picture.  Talk about gravity defying.  Holy cow!

It just never ceases to amaze the wonderful agility and balance of a
cat. So graceful about it too. I saw an x-ray of Yoda's once. Talk
about amazing, you can really see how they have those abilities.

Yoda: "Luminous beings are we, not crude hoomins."

That was a beautiful shot of Bootsie.  I didn't stop to wonder before
how she manages to get down from the tree, but now I know!
