...Could I please ask for some purrs?
I've been rotten ill with pneumonia. With daily physiotherapy, I'm
definitely on the mend, but I'm still shockingly weak, and can't even
sit up for long.
Thanks,

Healing purrs coming your way. I had pneumonia a few months ago and I know
how rotten you must feel!

Isn't it awful? How long did it take you to recover your strength, if I
may ask?

Every case of pneumonia is , I think unique. How long it lasts or how long
it takes to fully recover depend on so many variables.
But it does leave you tired. Right down deep inside the bones tired. And
there is nothing for it but to rest. Try to do a little each day to keep
your strength up, but a little may only be walking around inside the house a
bit rather than lying still. Maybe a venture to the end of the driveway and
back with someone to keep an eye on you.
See your doctor if you aren't getting well. Every case won't respond to the
same treatment. If what she gave you isn't working after four or five days,
it may be time to try something else.
And if your oxygen saturation goes to low you do need to be in the hospital
where you can get supplemental oxygen for a bit.
My last round was pretty easy. About four weeks from beginning to end. My
worst round took nearly six months to get back to normal. (That time was
viral pneumonia, and I also have asthma)

Oh yeah I hear you. That's the one.

I kept seeing the doc (not *my* doc, it's a group practice, and she's
the worst one in it, but the only one available) because I knew it was
worse than a chest should be, and in desperation went to Casualty, and
the doc there wasn't much better. They all said, oh yes, your chest
sounds fine, you're not wheezing.
Then (long story) I was referred to a physiotherapist. The physio also
listened to my chest and said bloody hell, you're not getting any air in
there, no wonder you're not wheezing, you've got nothing to wheeze
*with*. She drained a lot of gunk from my lungs during the treatment and
by the time I left, I could breathe again. Magic!
The doc in Casualty did give me antibiotics, Cefradine, but an 8-day
course had absolutely no effect. The problem is that being allergic to
penicillin and pregnant, we're a bit limited in what drugs I can take.
>And if your oxygen saturation goes to low you do need to be in the hospital

Hmm. Nobody's checked that.
>My last round was pretty easy. About four weeks from beginning to end.
Easy?! I'm guessing that's only by comparison, right??

Well, if you go by my exercise, I still haven't gotten it back! ;> I was
up to 30 miles a day on my bike, but that just put me completely off (I
didn't have the lung capacity to ride *at all*). I'm now up to about 15
miles a day (but then again, I do have other distractions that are
sidelining me lately). Seriously, it was about 4 weeks until I felt "right"
again.

But of course!
Apart from physio, cuddling a nice warm cat on your chest
could help a lot. They might enjoy it too, in which case the
purring acts as vibration therapy.
Purrs that you're much better very soon.

Spot on, but alas neither of my cats do that. I wish they did. One of
them I *might* possibly be able to entice onto my chest, briefly, but
she would stalk off in a fury at the first cough.
The other one does like his fussings, but he insists on having it rough.
He doesn't go for cuddles, what he wants is to be roughed up, scratched,
scritched and rubbed. If you're not rough enough, he wanders off. It's
exhausting and I don't have the strength for it :-(
I did have a lovely snuggle with the physio's cat today, though.
Esiotrot is a beautiful long-haired tortie and we had the kind of gentle
cuddle that I just don't get from my cats. And she touched noses
*bliss* and groomed me, licking my hand with her rough little tongue.
Was nice.

I keep telling myself that I end up with the cats that need me, rather than
the cats I need. Glad you were able to enjoy Esiotrot.

Purrs are on their way! Feel better soon, and go very slowly getting back
into your usual routine. It takes time to get your strength back after
being that ill.

Purrs coming for you. I had pneumonia once myself years ago and it
completely wiped me out. I cannot explain how weak I was, but you will
know. I couldn't get out of my bed to make myself a drink or food. I
recovered and so will you. Hang on in there Mogget.
It's a nasty illness.

Purrs coming from Leics for you to feel better soon. If your pneumonia
behaves similar to the pn. I had some years ago it might take quite a while
for you to feel stronger again. Weeks, maybe. I'm telling you this so you
don't worry if you aren't making the progress you expect.
It can really wipe you out. I had temperature spikes in the mornings and
evenings for about three weeks after I began to recover.
I hope you have someone to help you with all the activities of daily living
that you won't be able to do at present? You have a small child I seem to
remember.
Let me know how you get on, and take things slowly.
