I guess when you bring a new cat home, you find out a lot about the
resident cat that you didn't know. This sure was the case when I
brought Stinky home. This event awoke the sleeping diva in my little
Mimi. I quickly realized that she had always been so easy-going and
sweet because it had always been all her way all the time! When I
brought this goofy little clown home, it brought out the tiny tuxedo
tyrant in Mimi! It was amusing and eye-opening.
I had always considered Stinky a relatively "dignity-free" cat--
because he has always been a clown, and a great suckup for attention
and affection, even in his quieter moments. But now, suddenly, I
bring this little bit home-- and Stinky's slowly but surely getting
over the shock, but he is carrying himself with a dignity that I had
only seen hints of before. Not the "snobby" or "aloof" "dignity" that
some uninformed people associate with cats-- but just a quiet, gentle
dignity that I suspect he has assumed while he sorts things out for
himself. Like a kind of "noblesse oblige." ;) No reason not to be
gracious, as long as the little upstart doesn't get in his face. I am
just looking at my boy in wonder.
I am just hoping and praying though, that I am able to see the playful
side of my boy again, soon.

LOL! Forced into growing up despite himself! I know the feeling!!! ;>

Awwwww. I'm sure he will. Once he gets over the adjustment period he may
find himself with a really fun playmate!

I see people take their pictures to the drugstore too. On CD. It's
very retro. I mean, a CD? You can open an account with Kinko's and
upload your pictures directly to their printer. ;)
Does this mean that Stinky is no longer the all-nonsense cat?

I hope not. I hope he's just the once and future all-nonsense cat. ;)

I'm sure the playful fella you knew will be back. Something similar
happened with Stosh as we brought more ladies into the house. He developed
quite the swagger, and took on the role of guardian and protector of the
home, a post he takes quite seriously. He makes regular rounds, checking
each window, and God help you if you're wandering around his property!
He'll start whipping his tail around and making "Get your butt off my
property!" meows. And then he'll come into the bedroom, wind himself into
springloaded pose, pounce on my gut and play King of the Mountain with his
mama.
Have you ever tried catnip-laced blowing bubbles? Ours go bats for them
and chase them like mad. That might bring the play out in this new
gentleman you have in your midst.
Blessed be,
Baha

Frank was young enough himself when I brought home Nikki that he quickly
started playing with her, and never mind dignity. With the kittens now,
he's acting more like the stern father figure, except when he sometimes
forgets himself and joins in the playing. Mostly he will lay on the bed
and supervise them and say, 'Rrrrrr' every now and then. (Not growling,
just a friendly, warbling sound.)
