Natasha has both black and translucent claws. I wonder if it has something to do with the color of her foot pads - each of her feet has a mix of pink and black pads. Lady Jane Grey, who had climbed back up on my desk since I asked about moving cats off your desk so you can write about them, just gave me a swat and a strong talking to for putting her through the indignity of a peek at her claws. I had to wake up Xoxo to check, but his claws are all transparent. He's the only cat in our household that has black paws, so I checked him first. All the other cats have transparent claws. My tortie Toffee has tortie claws. They vary from white/translucent to beige to dark brown. Very odd. Makes trimming her nails tough as I'm not sure where the quick is. Translucent. Boyfriend only just came in, I looked at one front and one back leg when he said get lost and disappeared. Translucent too. They both have all four feet white. In fact, she's got one claw thats both black *and* white, in stripes. Yowie Vino's claws are translucent. I think it's good because it makes it easy to clip them and not accidentally nick the quick. It just never entered my mind that claws could be black. Cesca has brownish-pinky transluscent claws. Pan has BLACK paws and pads, and always has. Nina has white paws, with a mixture of pink and dark paw pads. But I especially wanted to check his back claws, as I don't clip those as often as the front ones and I remembered them having a kind of darkish strip along the front. This seems to come and go, as now that I checked them (clipped all his claws just an hour ago), the back claws were also just translucent, no dark lines.
