Yes, the lack of a comma after "sold" does make the above statement
somewhat ambiguous.

Sure, it would make the child happy, but what about the parent who left the
child unattended?  I think that's the point.

I remember one from years ago in the window of a pet store that sold,

I am reminded of the NO Smoking sign in my doctors office. It read "If
we see you smoking we will assume you are on fire and act
appropriatley"
