He is going to have his collar festooned with bells. His bird predation is
starting to be unacceptable to me. He's killing birds nearly every day for
sport. He is not hungry, there is food here for him all the time.

Sometimes I think that some cats can't entirely help themselves when they
answer the urge to hunt. Unlike dogs, that have had different breeds
developed to do different things well (tracking, hunting, guarding,
herding, etc), cats were only bred to do ONE thing: hunt small prey. I
guess some of them have an exceptionally strong urge to hunt.
Adding bells to his collar is a good idea. I'd recommend the kind that
dangles from the D-link where the ID tags can be attached. I got a bell
like that for Captain's collar, and it jingles at the slightest movement.
(I wish I had video of him trying to sniff his new bell when it was on his
collar... he kept backing up and backing up, trying to apply his nose to
the bell. LOL.)
Stanley's collar already had a bell pre-attached. It has a different tone
than Captain's bell, so it's actually possible to hear the difference and
know which cat is doing the jingling.
Or you could REALLY go all-out and get a bell with pre-attached bells,
then add one of the dangling kind of bell to it. Hopefully the birds will
quickly learn to pay attention to the sound.
