Forgive the graveyard humor....
DH is walking around with the camcorder taking "before" pictures of the
house to document it in case we have to show insurance adjusters later. I
told him that after 3+ weeks of sheltering 4 families here (messy adults,
children, and pets) we could probably send in the "before" pictures of my
house as it looks right now and claim hurricane damages! ;>

Ah, but tis true enough! I find having one houseguest to be overwhelming;
forget about 4 families! What's the weather doing?

Rita looks to be turning to the east - which is good for us since we'll get
the "clean" side of the storm (rain and flooding -wise) if it does. We're
looking at 80 - 100 MPH winds at my house when it gets here. The last big
storm we had in this area was in 1983, so we have 20+ years of new tree
growth since then (the really big trees should be fine since they're stood
here for 200 - 300 years - it's the (relatively) smaller trees that will do
the damage). We're looking at *LOTS* of possible tree / limb damage.
But, as I said, we're boarded up tight (all of our neighbors who also stayed
are eying up our house as a possible refuge, which is fine with us as long
as they bring their own supplies).

CatNipped

Are those the same neighbors that objected to your fence?
Seems like the "lots of ammo" suggestion that I made could
be factored in there, somewhere. :)

LOL. Nope, none of my immediate neighbors are on the Homeowner's
Association Board. But the lawyer who is better stay the heck away from
here hurricane or no!

LOL! So true, I bet.
I hope you stay safe.
It seems so far that you made the right decision to stay put and have plenty
of provisions that you would not have had if you had been stuck on the road
along with so many people. I'm sure you're not looking forward to tonight.
We will be thinking of you and your family and sending out prayers and purrs
for your safety and for everyone else in Rita's path.

On the positive side, Rita has weakened down to a Cat 3. Still nasty, but
not as bad as it could have been - *thankfully* Here's hoping Rita weakens
completely before landfall. One can but hope.
Cheers, helen s

LOL!
Well, technically, since there are so many people and pets sharing space
because of a hurricane, saying that any chaos shown in the videos is
hurricane-induced wouldn't be too far off the mark. ;o) OK, so it isn't
because of THIS hurricane, it's due to a previous one, but hey. Let's not
cloud the issue with details. ;o)

Believe me, anyone who can keep their sense of humor under those conditions
has my admiration, as well as my sympathy.

Hey, if graveyard humor is the only humor going...grab it. =o) I'm glad
you can get a laugh out of the situation. (I'd be going crazy at the
lack of privacy even more than the hurricane.)
I'm also thankful that Rita has weakened as far as it has, hope you and
all four families and all four foots camped at your place weather the
storm safely!
