About eight years ago, Otis had some mysterious accident that required three
surgeries to fix his foot. For the life of him, TED couldn't figure out
what happened to cause the injury. Otis ended up having three general
anesthetics in three days for skin grafts and I had to take time off work to
watch his every woozy move and feed him tiny bits of food from my finger.
Of course, as he healed, he developed a single minded obsession with taking
off his bandages and eventually had to be fitted with an extra large cone,
probably more suited to a medium sized dog. He couldn't walk up the stairs
with it because it was so big it would catch on the steps. That cat is his
own worst enemy!
You can see how beautifully it healed here:

Anyway, since then, he's developed a habit of high speed thumping with his
back foot - sort of like a drum roll. He'll clean it up and then do his
snare drum routine and wander off. It is the weirdest thing.

Poor baby! But you're such a good mom! :)

It wouldn't be Otis any other way!

Misty (RB) used to do the drumroll thing with her hind leg. I have rarely
seen this habit in other cats. I'm glad to know that she's not the only cat
to do this.
Now that I've typed that, I'm sure Captain and Stanley will see it and
decide to begin doing percussion duets any day now. ;o) They'll probably
start as soon as they've tired of crashing into things, knocking things
over, and making unusual noises in their usual ways, during their wrestling
matches and bouts of the zoomies.
