Kreisleriana - 15 Sep 2004 13:33 GMT Almost every evening, Stinky marches all over the house making these bloodcurdling yowls and bellows. It usually follows a session of window sitting that ends with electric-socket tail. ;) It's his response to outside cats that come around- he does it with great purpose and determination. So he was doing his usual yowl-patrol last night-- YOOOOOOOOW! WOOOOOOOOOOW! marching aorund like he's on a mission-- when I came downstairs for something.
He continues marching around, but the instant he sees me, his tail goes up in the air, he veers towards me to head-butt my leg, and he changes, mid-roar, to his usual friendly greeting meow-- sort of like YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO- meow!-OOWWWWWW!
Having cracked me up, and without missing a beat, he returns to his noisy, territorial posturing. ;)

He rolls over, points his belly at me, and says a very emphatic little "mow!" ;) He becomes incredibly long and wide, too. ;)

The price of territory is obviously eternal vigilance. =o) Awwwww..... Stinky is great. <G> I love the picture of him ALMOST getting onto the table at Christmas with the look of wounded innocence on his face. It's kind of poignant for me, looking at pictures of Stinky, as his markings are very similar to Izzy's (RB). The main difference is that Izzy had a black spot under her right nostril that made it look like she had just snorted ink and then let it run out, again.

I'm sure I looked at these pictures before, at least some of them, if not all. I love the third one, "Xmas is for everyone" - he looks soooooo guilty. And capturing the image of a guilty cat is very hard to pull off, so I commend you on your photography skills! I also have a weakness for pink noses, and his is quite adorable. Good politics, too. :)

What a character Stinky seems to be. Also save for missing a white tip on his tail. He is a pretty close match for Felix - the computer animated cat that frolics on computer desktops. Hmmm.

He's got the manners of a caveman. Or maybe it's just the tux he wears. Perhaps in a past life he was filthy rich, so rich he could get away with slobby behavior.
None of my cats are talkers per se, though Roxie trills a lot. Ours prefer to get their points across through action rather than word. At 6 AM, Stosh and Brandy usually jump into bed with me and Louie for their morning wrestling matches and invite us to wake up and join in the play. They do this by giving a demonstration of how much fun wrestling is. Depending on the card for the match, they will either hold an exhibition where they themselves wrestle, usually on us; or they show us by the direct, paws-on approach and give our feet half-nelsons. Roxie frequently officiates, and has actually stepped in a time or two, when the match got dirty and the profanities were getting out of hand, to bap the little juvenile delinquents in the nose and break up the rumble.

We've had our share, including dear departed Bobby my Internet namesake who had an opinion on everything. And Herbie, whose meow was silent until the final split second when he'd utter a loud "Ack!" just like Bill the cartoon cat. Now there's Emily, who can sound very dainty and feminine at times, and at others like Rosanne Barr on a bad day. Then there's sweet Martha, a BIG kitty with a tiny voice whose idea of drawing attention to herself when I'm concentrating on the computer screen is to edge up very close to me and utter a polite little "Meeep?" All work halts of course while I cuddle her. Satisfied, she purrs and wanders off. Sophie? She's a mono-cat with a single all-purpose meow. Love every one of 'em, with all their vocal vicissitudes!

Stosh gets like this about his Archie Chair, which he has further embellished by taking a mouthful of catnip and scattering it in the seams. Early in the morning he usually goes off on a chair fit, where he'll run to the top, sit, dig his claws in and say MROWR-ROWW! And he'll look around him with this expression like, "I DARE you to park your keister in my chair!" And he means it. One morning I did sit there, and he walked by and bit my ankle. He will go on his chair fit several times in a morning, usually breaking off from a wrestling match with Brandy, his partner of choice. Kind of like he's saying, "Don't think you're too high and mighty, you brat kid; I'll smack you silly if you even think of coming up on MY CHAIR." She tried twice, and that was enough for her.
We now have to go shopping for a new office chair.

It usually follows a session of [quoted text clipped - 17 lines] > >We now have to go shopping for a new office chair. Ah. You see the thing about Stinky is that he is all talk. That's partly what makes these chest-beating sessions so funny. While TIny Mimi was with us, she was about a quarter of his size, and he was totally whipped by her. He would never beat on a lady, even to defend himself. He is a complete Little Lord Fauntlecat, which is why the neighbor toms come around to sit on his porch and taunt him-- and why he prances around bellowing like a black-and-white banshee. ;)
I sort of didn't know how to take his acknowledgment of me as he was patrolling his territory-- was it Eddie Haskell-like disingenuity? Sort of "That's a lovely housecoat you have on, Mrs. Cleaver"?
Or was it-- more likely-- that he is just *such* a Mama's boy? ;)
He does get revved up with catnip-- it kind of reminds me of Kevin Kline in "A Fish Called Wanda" sniffing his armpit to get properly psyched for whatever . . . :P
