Well, I'm back home now, with Dennis in tow :-)
My trip to Bangkok was lovely, staying at my friend's apartment while
she was away was great. 20th floor, gigantic floor to ceiling picture
windows overlooking the whole city and a great thunderstorm show going
on on Thursday night.
I didn't really do a heck of a lot, had Dennis' wedding ring re-done
in white gold instead of yellow. I had mine done 2 months ago and am
loving it and Dennis now wanted his too. I picked it up on Friday
before meeting Dennis at the airport. As soon as I saw him I asked
him if he wanted to hang out with me for the rest of his life while
putting the ring on him. He said yes :-)
Other than that, I did some shopping but was quite good actually, got
some clothes but no shoes. That's pretty good for me. Got a haircut
but it was only a trim as I'm trying to grow my hair out a bit.
I'm so happy that Dennis is finally back, this last time away was
really bad for both of us. It was frustrating not being able to
celebrate and talk together about our Aussie visa and all our future
plans. And Dennis had some icky incidents at work and many problems
with the helicopter. But all's well now :-)
It's going to be a busy month for us. We have to go to Bangkok on
Monday to drop off our passports to get the visas put in. Then we
have to go back on Friday and pick them up.
And the following Monday we are going somewhere else and we don't even
know if we will be gone for 3 days or 10 days. We'll know when we get
there. Purrs for the 3 day option would be greatly appreciated!
Another little worry is that I've been suspecting that Vino's losing
weight. Dennis confirmed it. He thinks he's lost 2 lbs but I think
it's only 1 lb. It's hard to tell on the hoomin scale. He's acting
fine and seems perfectly normal. Maybe it's just because I'm not
feeding him all these treats like Dennis always does when he's home.
He also doesn't like his dry food much lately, prefers to wait for the
wet food in the morning and evening. I think it's that he's sick of
the dry food, we're at the end of a huge bag and so he's had the same
flavour for something like a year now. Anyway, when we go away, we're
going to have a really good vet look at Vino and see if there's
anything wrong.
Well, that's it for my update. Hugs and purrs for everyone!

Well, he was approximately 12 lbs before. Dennis said yesterday that
he was around 10 lbs. But of course it's not accurate when you use
the hoomin scale to weigh them, so there could be some give/take
there.

Thanks, Victor. This morning I mixed some kibble in with his wet food
and he ate it all up. I'm going to keep doing that from now on,
hopefully he eats more kibble that way. I can't really give him more
canned because he can only eat so much at one sitting and I really
don't want to get started on 3 times a day feedings, that seems a bit
much to me.

Lots of purrs for the 3 day option.
We are thinking of Vino, sending lots and lots of purrs and best wishes that
the loss of weight is due to his not eating as much dry food as before,

I doubt that the dry food has spoiled or lost any of its nutrition, but
after a year it may well have lost its appeal.
I've had dry dog food go rancid after many months of storage in the garage
in the heat.
I'm only guessing, but cats have a highly developed sense of smell and it
may have lost it "scents" appeal for Vino over time.

Quite possibly- my cat refuses to eat dry food left in her bowl for half a
day, so i can imagine what yours thinks of the really old food!!

Here's lots of purrs that Vino fills out a bit. I know my cats don't like
the end of the bag and pick up their eating with a fresh one. It'll be good
to find yourself a good vet in your new home!

Yeah, I can't wait to get to Australia. I don't trust any of the vets
over here. I always get the feeling that they think it's silly to
take a cat to a vet. Purebred dogs, sure. Anything else...naaaah.
Waste of money, time and effort :-(

Do you refrigerate the dry food? I find that helps. Surprised that you
are concerned over Vino's weight. I thought he looked a tad overweight
when I saw some pictures of him. OTOH 1-2 pounds is a lot of weight to
lose and risky if done quickly. Maybe he's trying to get back his
waistline :)

No. I have people visiting from Canada who bring me those huge Costco
bags of Iams because they only sell the cheap Whiskas and Friskies
here. So there's no way to keep a huge bag like that in the fridge.
But I do squeeze all the air out of it and roll up the edge and fasten
it with a ton of office clips all along it. I pour a couple of week's
worth out and into a re-sealable plastic bin.
This big bag he's been working on will be finished soon. The next bag
is a different flavour. I've been mixing some kibble in with his
canned food and he does eat it all that way, so I'll continue with
that.
He definitely looks fluffier than he is because he's got kinda long
fur and it's very tufty. He's got a bit of an udder but is quite
skinny over the shoulders and in the hips.
I don't think he's ill though, he's acting normal in every other way.

That's so confusing. My cat felt skinny there too, hips and shoulders,
and also had the udder. I think it was fat and not the side flaps for
protection when fighting. So I put her on canned food too, bought all
kinds of expensive tiny 85 gram/3 ounce cans (even frozen organic pet
food from New Zealand) mostly with dry kibble for the teeth. Now using
mostly Fancy Feast with low phosphorus and Science Diet occasionally.
Her coat feels better and she feels a little more muscular and she's
lost some weight. Need to get a good scale that weighs in fractions of
an ounce, like a postal scale that is accurate. Am eyeing one that is
real cheap AND accurate to 0.4 ounces or if using the gram side, around
10 grams accuracy but reads to 0.2 ounces and 5 grams.
About the big bag, I know what you mean. I had to stop with saving
money on the big bags and buy only that size I could break down and
store in a 'frig. So I use plastic containers and keep the rest, like
yours, rolled down with clips and also stored in the 'frig. So most
times, I have only cat food in the 'frig :)
