I have new furniture

I went to the grocery store the other day (maybe a few weeks ago now)
and they were GIVING away the coolest furniture for only the asking.  Is
plastic okay they asked?  No, I said, I want paper.  So now I have three
paper bags in various spots around my apartment.  The cats love them so
much they haven't even torn them up.  And there is almost no time there
is a paper bag without a cat.  One of the best investments I have made
in a long time.  They look so smug in there.  My friends can't believe
that I am just leaving the bags out - forever.  But they have more
staying power than any other toy I've ever given them, so they are here
to stay.  And if one gets torn up too badly, well, I know where to get
another one.

Lily has her very own paper bag on the kitchen floor which has the words:
LILY'S PAPER BAG, DO NOT KICK OR TOUCH.
She loves to go in there into stealth mode to attack slippers, shoes, toes,
whichever is available at the moment. DH tends to not look where he's
walking or pick up stuff that's on the floor, hence the words in black
marker on the paper bag.

Mine love paper bags so much (but can't sdeem to keep them
open) that I bought a cloth version with a wire lined
opening, which can be set as open as you like.  It even
makes a crinkly sound, like a paper bag.  I set it on the
floor expecting instant acceptance.  I've now had it lying
around for almost a year, and aside from a few disdainful
sniffs when it first appeared, no one goes near it!  (And it
cost me close to ten bucks, IIRC!)

and paper bags go so well with bathroom rugs on the living room floor,
boxes, ear plugs (Bono's faourites) and what not ...
and it's good exercise for hoomins to step over and around all the cat
furniture

The best kind of furniture.

I agree about their fascination for cats, but mine seem to
miss the point.  They'll crawl inside the first time or two,
then flatten the bag, and never seem able to figure out how
to get into it, after that!

Oh, but that's the brilliant thing about bags!  You can get in them,
or sit on them!!  You can shred them!  They are so cool!

I am continually disappointed that my two show no interest whatsoever in
boxes and bags, despite the fact that I've got them specially for them.

That's your problem! If you buy it specially for them, they won't pay
attention to it. Basic cat law. :)

LOL, I can empathize. There is nothing that Captain and Stanley enjoy more
than a paper bag or a cardboard box. In particular, Captain is a box fiend
and will try to fit his stripey self into anything that even REMOTELY looks
like he might fit inside.

Only being able to wedge himself into a box up to the shoulders still
counts as "fitting inside", in Captain's scorebook. If he can't see us, we
can't see him. :o)

An especially popular game around here is "Pounce On My Brother", and
apparently it's even more fun when one cat's in a box or a bag and the
other one's outside.

The Feline Entertainment Committee is definitely more fun to watch than the
vast majority of what's on TV these days, LOL.

lol Bridget!

We shop at a discount grocery called Aldi.  They allow you to take
empty boxes to put your groceries in, and charge you a nickle for
paper bags, 10 cents for plastic.  So most people use the boxes.  Back
when we had a vehicle, that's exactly what we did.  And, some of them
still adorn our living and dining rooms.  Yep, the cats thing they
make purrfect beds!
