Almost crushed Rufous!

I'm working from home today. Or at least trying to. I seem to be getting
my annual summer influenza breakout. All my body hurts and I have a
fever. I also have a lot of work accumulated since I was out last week
and I'm going to a conference next week. So I'm sitting here working on
some documents (and checking out the group with my right eye!) when I
decide to stretch leaning back on my chair. Since I'm a bit weak, I
sense I'm loosing my balance. Somehow I manage to jump to the side and
hold the chair so it doesn't fall. Guess who was sleeping right behind
my chair? Rufous! He would have been crushed! Poor baby, I think he
needs an extra treat for the scare. Though judging from his expression,
he didn't realize his life was in any danger... :)

Whew. I hate episodes like this. I always think "what if" but luckily I've
always managed to avoid catastrophy.

Cats generally seem to move fast enough to get out of the way of
approaching large objects (with the exception of cars, of course :( ).
I wouldn't fear that a moving person would come at a cat fast enough
to do damage - by the time the person hits, the cat is long gone!

Did you fly when you travelled? If so, that's probably the cause of your
flu. I always get sick when I travel by plane. Think of it - there are
approximately 250 people on a commercial airliner. At least one of them
has to have a contagious cold or flu-like illness. The air in planes gets
cycled and recycled for hours, and you're all breathing it. It's party
time for viruses!

Someone I know told me she was able to get her doctor to prescribe her
own personal oxygen tank for her flight. Not only did she not catch any
colds, but she wasn't the least bit tired after the trip. Her theory is
that "jet lag" is really oxygen deprivation. The air you breathe in a
plane has a lower percentage of oxygen than what we breathe down here
on earth. Costs less.

In any case, I hope you feel better soon!

I have had a few close encounters of that type. It is scary for the
hoomin; but the cat usually has utter confidence in the hoomin's
ability to know he is there.
